Hi, Since videos are taped in DV format, you need a firewire card (IEEE-1394) and cable. These are cheap. May be your PC already has a firewire card. Just check. Windows XP recognises automatically the camcorder. Moreover, its integrated video capture/editing module, Windows Movie Maker, is very userfriendly. USB connection is only good for downloading still images (photos) to your PC. For more information, go to good luck

Transfer video files from my Pc to my tablet

That depends on the tablet you're using. If you have an ipad, you can transfer videos using iTunes on your desktop PC. If you are using an android type tablet, you should be able to connect it via USB to your desktop and transfer files that way. And, if you have a windows tablet, I would suggest using an external usb drive to transfer files.

Welcome to FixYa!

Copying from TAPE to PC requires 4 things. The video cam where the TAPE will be played, a FIREWIRE compatible cable, a FIREWIRE card installed on your computer and a SOFTWARE that supports a firewire device that would record the video.

Unlike Digital Videos that you can just copy and paste the video file from the video cam to the computer, the tape to pc transfer is more of recording the video in from the video cam by playing it in real time while the computer is recording it.

This is a sample of a FIREWIRE card that is installed inside a computer.
An external USB version of this is also available.

Windows MOVIE MAKER is an example of a software that can be used to record the videos. It supports FIREWIRE devices.

Here's a sample video.

I am trying to find that what type of cable I

depending on what connection you have on your computer. You can use usb to usb or dv to dv. If you use usb to usb it's pretty straightforward but if you go dv to dv just make sure which dv connector you have on your computer 4 or 6 pin. If you don't have a manual for your jvc , go to their website and download one. All of the info will be in there, usually towards the back of the manual. My suggestion would be if you have a dv connector on your pc you should use that setup because it is faster than usb. But if you don't have a dv connector, usb to usb is fine. Have fun.

Transferring camcoder to computer form

Had same problem...although manual states you can transfer via USB, it doesn't work and won't no matter how many drivers you find. What does work is a Firewire cables. You have three options but I only have tried and proven one. Options:

1. 4-Pin to 4-Pin Firewire transfer cable. The camera has a Firewire port directly below the AC Power adaptor port. This worked fine pulling the video to my PC using Windows Media Transfer. No drivers least for Vista. As soon as I plugged in the camera, a window opened asking what actions I wanted to take. Only my HP Laptop equipped with 4-Pin Firewire.

2. 4-Pin (Camera) to 6-Pin Firewire (PC). My Laptop or Desktop not equipped.

3. 4-Pin Firewire (Camera) to USB (PC). Might work but since I couldn't pull data through Camera USB, didn't want to invest in this cable configuration.

Solution in future is buy a bunch of SD Media cards (Not SD-HC) and stop using tape. Transfer direct to PC from SD Card.

Don't have cds for SC-D363 to use with PC

I have a Sc-D365, which as I understand it, the same as the SC-D363 but has a couple more bells and whistles. You need to download the drivers and other software so it will talk to your computer. Go to : to download the stuff you need. The page will have a tab for each of: "Manual", "Drivers", "Software" and you ll have to select each tab to get the files you need in each category. You will also need to buy a Firewire cable (IEEE 1394) with a small male connector on one end (camera side) and a regular sized connector male on the other (computer side). If you don't already have a Firewire interface on your computer, you will need to get one. That's the only way you can get the video from the TAPE. You will also need to get a USB cable with standard USB male on one end (computer side) and mini on the other (camera side). Once you download the User's Manual, it lists the part numbers of the USB cable and the analog cable to connect it to the TV. The USB cable is used to transfere photos and video files stored on the Memory Stick PRo memory module (user-supplied) and to stream live video to your computer. I use my SC-D365 for webcam applications in video conferencing, it works rather well for that, too. Good luck!

Hi, You can only transfer still images (photos) with a USB cable. For video, you need a firewire card and cable. That's the way it works.
