No audio of ARC with hts3115

The ARC of my Philips 42PFL7676H is turned on. Yet, with the hts 3115 on "TV" there's no audio. The HDMI cable installed does support ARC. Why can't I hear the TV-audio via the hts3115?

SOURCE: Hi. I have Philips HTS3115

"In the past I have got the old flat TV connected with SCART"... what about the present? HOW is the "TV" audio connected to it?

My advice would be to remove the TV as a sound source and get the TV-audio from the audio outputs of wherever it really originates. In most cases that is a Cable Box which can be treated like a high-end audio device for this discussion.

Ever wonder why Cable Boxes have separate audio and video outputs and TV's have multiple inputs? So you can send the BEST version of audio and video directly to the BEST electronics that NEEDS it and NOT to or through anything that adds nothing to the quality. Heck, many TV's are monitors without audio at all. THAT is how I would treat any TV for serious high end listening. Send the digital Cable Audio to the soud system and the 'regular' RCA audio to the TV for low-fi TV-watching like news and Oprah.

SOURCE: cannot get surround sound to work with Philips hts3106/f7 andonic tcp50g25. It works fine for Blue ray via the hdmi out of philips dvd/receiver, but not for xbox or cable etc (only works in stereo).

i have the same system. all you have to do is when you connect your xbox 360, press the surround button on the remote and then use the arrow buttons to change it to dolby music pro2 or multi channel audio. same goes with any device you connect. hope it helps. In my case the xbox is connected to the Tv via HDMI and bluray player is connected to xbox via compoent cable

I have a Sony bluray surround sound and lg smart tv, I can't play my Apple TV sound through my hts, all my connections are hdmi and both systems have arc, please help?

Is your Apple TV connected to the Sony or directly to your TV? If directly connected to the Sony HTS ARC shouldn't be needed and you should have audio. If that's the case check the Apple TV settings to be sure it isn't set for s/pdif output. If connected to the TV then the TV should be able to put a s/pdif signal on the HDMI ARC pin but perhaps there's no way to assign it to the HDMI input coming from the HTS? It may be going to the ARC pin on the Apple TV HDMI input which won't give you any sound. Normally ARC is intended to put the s/pdif signal from the TV's internal tuner on the HDMI cable from the HTS so the HTS can play TV sound without having to tun a separate Toslink cable from the TV s/pdif output to the HTS. One other thing: Early HDMI cables do not include the ARC wire so be sure you have ARC capable cables. Look in your TV documentation to see if there is a way to assign the ARC output to a different incoming HDMI input if the Apple TV is connected directly to the TV. If not you may need to resort to a Toslink optical cable from your TV to an optical input on your HTS. Or actually running that cable from Apple TV to the HTS would be better since it's possible it could carry surround sound. Most TV's optical outputs are limited to the 2 channel sound the TV can accept.

Why won't my TV sound go through the Hts 3450?

Wide open one here. Is your tv coming in direct from the wall or do you have a cable/digital box that you need to get the signal from? If you have a box then make sure you are plugged into the audio out on the box and on the HTS you are on the audio in. There will be a left and right. If you have the sound to your tv then you can plug into the audio out on your tv and again plug into your audio in on your box. If your tv has an option for external speakers then you need to make that adjustment on the audio menu on your tv. Also make sure that the proper channel is selected on your HTS and that your audio output matches your selection. Hope this helps but I will keep an eye out for further posts.

I would like to hook up my philips hts3544 to my hdtv. i have a satelite receiver in between . i cant always get the hts to provide volume for my tv . can you advise me how to

Manuals answer most of those types of questions.

SAT IN BETWEEN THEM? WHY?? HOW? Treat the SAT as an A/V audio source.

Provide "volume" for the TV?? What's that mean? No sound or no control of it?

Most TV's have multiple Video inputs. The SAT should go STRAIGHT to it. The digital audio, if available on a coaxial digital output, SHOULD be run to the HTS's coax digital input.

The TV speakers will never be under control of the HTS. TheTV volume would handle that end. What's the point? Are the TV speakers BETTER?
The HDMI cable CAN carry the audio to it. As the manual says,

"Make sure that the audio output setting is not turned off. See 'Setup Menu Options - { Audio Setup Page -
HDMI Audio }' for details."

Go to http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/h/ and drill down to the HTS3544/37 directory for the manual. The alpha directories are slow loading. Be patient.

WIRE ELIMNATION

For the TV:
There are a few possibilities.
1)You can connect a red and white AV cable (or the red and white portion of a red, white and yellow cable) from the TV Audio OUTPUT to the "Audio In/TV" portion of the HTS (NOTE: Many TV's do not have an Audio OUTPUT).
2)You can connect a red and white AV cable (or the red and white portion of a red, white and yellow cable) from the Audio OUTPUT of your cable or satellite box to the "Audio In/TV" portion of the HTS.
Note: Using a red and white cable may not give you sound on all 5 speakers.
3)Get a digital audio or SPDIF cable and run it from the TV, Cable or Satellite Box's Digital Audio OUT to the "DIGITAL IN" of the HTS. This will give you the best sound quality. When using this (or any of the other) type of connection, press SURR until you get sound from all 5 speakers.

For the Xbox, try hooking a red/white audio cable from the Xbox into the Audio IN/AUX on the back of the HTS, and then switching the source on the home theater to AUX.

Fm/am works but no audio in tv mode

Make sure your TV has an audio output (many TV's do not). If the TV has no audio output then run either a red/white AV cable or a digital audio cable from your cable or satellite box to the Audio IN/AUX of the HTS. Go to www.usasupport.philips.com to get the user's manual (the manual leaves these instructions out, since the necessary cables do not come included with the HTS).
