SOURCE: how can I transfer video onto a PC

Your camera is Analog model, can't connected directly with PC. You need to install some sort of "Analog-to-Digital video convertor card" in PC to digitize its audio-video output.

SOURCE: video transfer from sony handycam ccd-trv 308 hi8 to a computer

The S-video on your computer is for output video (to connect to monitor or TV). Samething for your Cam. You need to have a device video input (USB or PCMCIA) to connect to your computer, and a software (driver that comes with the device) to CAPTURE the video from your Cam.
So you need a hardware and sofware for this. Price now is ~ US$ 40 to > US$100 depending on the brand and quality.

Convert sony handycam vision with Hi8 tapes to digital format

If you are trying to use S-Video cable from the Camcorder to the Computer, you need a video capture card capable of accepting S-Video input. Alternately, you may also use a A/V input if already one available in your Computer. Please let me know if you require any clarifications.

What equipment do i need to record from Sony Video Hi8 Handycam vision onto DVD's - i have tried using the svideo cable and i have vision but no audio...

You must connect the audio cables to your recorder too. The S-video just carries the (up to) 500 line picture signal.

Video transfer from sony handycam ccd-trv 308 hi8 to a computer

I have a sony handycam ccd-trv 308 hi8 analog camcorder and I was trying to transfer videos from it to my computer. However, when I plug the S-video cable to the handycam and my computer, nothing happens. Does my computer require a driver to recognize the handycam because I cannot find any in the sites of sony for my handycam's model. Or am I using the wrong wire?
