Got a GE gsl25xgwss that won't go into defrost mode. Replaced the defrost thermostat and it still is not defrosting. It also has an evaporator thermistor that ties into the circuit baord. Could that be the problem? I can't find a wiring schematic on the fridge....what terminals can I jump out to force the heater on to make sure it isn't a failed heater?

Maybe but there is also a thermister in the defrost system that might be bad. The thermister is a small, white, barrell shape and is as big around as a pencil, It has 2 wires going in it and is attached to the top of the coils in the freezer.

It's almost always the defrost heater. If you have volts to the defrost thermostat the defrost control is working. Set your meter to check ohms and remove the wiring from the heater. If anything changes when you touch the meter leads to the heater terminals then the heater is probably good, but my guess is nothing will change, which means you've got a bad heater.

if u have frost build up in the freezer it will affect the temperature
and it needs to defrost
problems could be
defrost timer.
thermostat.
terminator.
heater s.
unit problems (unlikely) if even frost coating.

If the thermostat and heater are good then replace the motherboard. Part 801 on this diagram.http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5227091&diagram_id=23016032#d23016032
