GE refrigerator gsl25xgwss defrost problem

Got a GE gsl25xgwss that won't go into defrost mode. Replaced the defrost thermostat and it still is not defrosting. It also has an evaporator thermistor that ties into the circuit baord. Could that be the problem? I can't find a wiring schematic on the fridge....what terminals can I jump out to force the heater on to make sure it isn't a failed heater?

Either heater or Board is most likely bad. You can remove heater and test it with ohm meter for continuity

Maybe but there is also a thermister in the defrost system that might be bad. The thermister is a small, white, barrell shape and is as big around as a pencil, It has 2 wires going in it and is attached to the top of the coils in the freezer.

It's almost always the defrost heater. If you have volts to the defrost thermostat the defrost control is working. Set your meter to check ohms and remove the wiring from the heater. If anything changes when you touch the meter leads to the heater terminals then the heater is probably good, but my guess is nothing will change, which means you've got a bad heater.

My GE model GSH25KGMB BB side by side refrigerator is not cooling on fresh food side. Freezer and ice maker side working fine. How should I troubleshoot this?

On your model I would go straight to the defrost heater and defrost thermostat and check them first after defrosting the evaporator first with a hair drier. Ge side by side frig won't defrost gss25sgmb new heater motherboard thermostats

Replace the thermistors #4 and #5 . 4 is the white bullet looking piece on top of the coils inside the freezer , with 2 white wires . 5 is at the bottom of the freezer , on the left side . These thermistors tell the main board , the temp and the board goes into defrost according to temp the thermistors "tell it " .

The refrigerator door has lost its spring/resistance when you open it, it just flies open..

There should be a closing mechanism as part of either the top or the bottom hinge that can be replaced.

I have an older GE Profile side by side not defrosting, have continuity in element when warmed thermostat kicks off and I have replaced the timer, still not defrosting. Model #THP21PBSMWW S/N SL238841

Need to check and see if the element is heating up when it goes into defrost. If the thermostat is bad it will not go into defrost. I purchased a new heating element for my GE and it came with the element and thermostat together. Also make sure the fan is running in the freezer this moves the heat through the coil as well as the cold temp when in freeze mode.
