Red convergence is out of alignment

I have gone through the standard convergence alignment procedures offered in the menu of the TV. It does not seem to fix the red and blue convergence in one small area of the sceen. The middle of the screen on the far left is way out and it is very noticable when there is writing or lettering on the screen. I had a tech out 2-3 years ago to fix the same problem, and he did. When he did, he simply used the remote to get the TV into a "service mode" with a much more specific adjustment pattern( more than the 9 point offered in the menu). Can I access this mode myself? It looked very easy I just don't have the book/manual that told the tech how to do it. Can I buy that manual?

If the mis-convergence is only noticable on the left center and the top and bottom left side of the screen is good, then it sounds more like a pincushion distortion problem rather than a convergence one. Otherwise, you could have a bad pair of convergence IC's or capacitors / solder connection problems. I would doubt that adjusting the service menu would correct this problem, and you could make it much worse by trying. Better have a technican work on it if the picture quality is still good otherwise.

SOURCE: Red convergence is out of alignment

I actually disagree with that information. IF you can move both horizontally and vertically the blue and red convergence then the ic's are fine.

I got a 43FDX11B Hitachi TV and the image got kind of doubled on the left side of the screen. The problem did not occurred gradually. I realigned the projectors (I found that the crosses where not aligned)...

All projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

"Perfect Focus" problem on Samsung HCN4727W

You have a bad sensor, a bad digital convergence board, or the new board is not working correctly. I would start by swaping out the convergence board or exchange it for another one. Good Luck

I have a sony projection tv kp-43ht20 and the picture has gone pink. Can you give me an idea what has happened? Is this a fixable problem? I can't afford a brand new tv at this time. Thank you for your...

Sounds like the convergence is out of adjustment....moving the set can cause this as well as components chaging value with age....The kp43ht20 is an older set and may not have the alignment setup in the menu as with the newer sets...but you can go thru the menu to find out...if there is one, then you can try to align the convergence...usually there will be a crosshatch on the tv...when aligning convergence there will be a blue setting and a red setting...you want to select red first and try to get the lines lined up as close together as possible on the red adjustment..then you go to the blue adjustment and do the same...the outcome should be as close as possible to white when everything is lined up properly

Tv out of foucs

These procedures are from the owners manual, go into menu and then picture quality and then: Convergence The Convergence feature lets you adjust the TV’s three tubes. When the TV tubes’ images are precisely aligned, they create the color images you see on the screen. Over time, the picture can drift out of alignment (this is normal). If your picture seems fuzzy or has a yellow tint, using Convergence could correct this misalignment. Only one convergence is needed for all inputs, regardless of the signal format. Note: Make sure the TV has been on for at least 30 minutes (TV needs to warm up for best results) before starting Auto Converge or Red/Blue Centering. When you select the Convergence feature, a submenu appears with three options: Auto Converge Automatically aligns the projection lenses to self-correct color images. You’ll see flashing squares of color dance across the screen (this is normal). Note: After performing auto convergence, use the Blue Centering and Red Centering menus to fine tune convergence in the center of the screen, if necessary. Blue Centering Aligns the blue and green images to fine-tune the picture. Red Centering Aligns the red and green images to fine-tune the picture. Note: The ability to change channels is disabled when adjusting the convergence options. The TV must be tuned to a usable signal to converge the picture.

Your convergence has failed and needs to be repaired. Once quick test is to goto your convergence menu and see if you can adjust red and blue. If not its has failed and needs to be fixed. You can call in a repair shop or you can get the parts and instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com and do the repair yourself. Its a fairly easy DIY fix.

Red convergence is out of alignment

i think your convergance amp ic are bad.
The STKs are common and if you have an experienced electronics tech around they can replace them for much less money but the tech must have advanced soldering and IC exchange experience.

The STK ics, two of them, can be purchased on line for around $20 to $40 each.

http://www.partstore.com/GetModel.aspx?MfgName=Toshiba&BrandName=Toshiba&ModelNu...

Partstore has two models available - one for around $40 and another for around $55.

The part number is STK392-110 and if you google you can find them for as little as $6/each but I don't recommend the cheap ones as they are not reliable.

It takes a good tech around 3 or 3 hours to take the old ones out and solder in the new ones. Also, it is likely one or two resistors are burnt and will need replacing as well.
Don not run the tv till you have it fix you will cause more damage!

Projection red is above other colors

Look in your menu for something called "horizontal static convergence" or just "convergence". Adjusting this will align all three tubes electronically. If physical adjustment is needed, then you have to do this manually inside the Tv. keever
