''LOCKED'' button is stuck on oven, but door is not closed

I was in the process of cleaning my oven & I didn't get my door shut before the Locked button came on.

My GE Profile door is "locked". I was in the process of cleaning it & set the self clean button BEFORE i shut my oven door. Now, the door is locked, but open!

  • outland1 Nov 17, 2008

I don't have a LOCK button on my stove. It automatically locks when you start the 'oven cleaning' process.

  • outland1 Nov 17, 2008

Well, the timer isn't working since the door wasn't shut. Any more suggestions???

  • outland1 Nov 18, 2008

The cycle isn't running. No timer is running or will run.

Check the door switch. you probably tripped it while cleaning..

  • Anonymous Nov 17, 2008

    Ok, try this:

        Press CANCEL

Depress and hold down the DOOR LIGHT SWITCH

Press CLEAN (not START). Latch will unlock in about 6 seconds. You can now close the door.
Or turn off the circuit breaker for about 5 minutes, and turn it back on and see if this helps..

If you've interrupted the clean cycle or have accidentally set the clean cycle "with the oven door open,"or u forgot to close the door and started cleaning then  the latch may have engaged and now the door can't be closed because it will hit the latch. There may be a door activated* switch on the front face of the machine. In this case you may need to manually press that door switch with your finger while at the same time canceling the clean cycle to get the latch to retract so the door can close fully again.
On -some- Frigidaire built ranges, the switch is located behind the right hand side panel and activated by the right hand door hinge. On this model, the side panel may need to be removed to access a malfunctioning door switch.

If the lock does not open after the machine has cooled down, you can try....1) Unplugging the range or shut off the circuit breaker for 5 minutes. Plug the range back in or turn on the circuit breaker. Set the clock and try moving the door lock lever or opening the door. 2) Set the self-clean cycle again and only allow it to work for 15 minutes. Cancel the self-clean cycle and allow the oven to cool. Gently try moving the door lock lever or opening the door.

    elf clean "how to" help....
There are many different styles of clocks and ranges that are popular today. You may not find the exact type as your range, but have a look through, as one may be close enough to help you set the self clean.
...Room 1 some common GE built ranges
...Room 2 more GE and some Maytag built ranges
...Room 3 Amana and Frigidaire (WCI) built ranges
...Room 4 Older style common ranges....White-Westinghouse/Frigidaire
...Room 5  Whirlpool - Inglis built Kenmore range

Kenmore elite oven door shows door locked how to unlock it

https://www.hunker.com/12438447/how-to-unlock-a-locked-oven-door-on-a-kenmore-range

How to Unlock Locked Oven Door on Kenmore Range Hunker

Quoting from the link shown:
Step 1 Read the display on the electronic oven controls, where the clock and timer normally appear. If the display reads "CLN" while the "Door Locked" light is on, the Kenmore range is in self-clean mode. When the Kenmore range is in self-clean mode, you must stop the cleaning process before the door will unlock.
Step 2 Stop the self-cleaning process by pressing and holding the "Stop/Clear" button for three seconds. The oven lock should disengage after three seconds. In some cases, a malfunction between the control panel and the locking mechanism prevents the door from unlocking.
Step 3 Hold the light switch for several seconds if the "Stop/Clear" button fails to unlock the range door. Engaging the light switch for several seconds resets the entire locking mechanism and overrides the "Stop/Clear" button.

Oven lock stuck in locked position and oven door won't close - was starting self cleaning and then checked to see if door was locked and door opened, but lock engaged, and now oven door won't shut. ...

Hello there:
This is a very common issue with these appliances whenever the cleaning cycle is interrupted this normally is the result.
So what you will need to do is to first unplug the appliance from the wall outlet and leave it alone for 1 hour this allows the internal self reset feature to reset the oven.
once the hour has elapsed plug it back in and you should hear a audiable click within about 5 min or if you have a cancel button press it and you should be able to continue from there okHopethis is very helpful for you Please keep me posted ok
Best regards mike

Opened oven door before it could lock while I was

try unplugging the unit,
depending on your exact model it may just be lost in the programming becuse it sensed the door open while locking so it shuts down the lock for safety
just unplugging if for a few minutes might clear the error enough for the lock to rotate back to closed

GE Spectra XL44 Gas Oven, flashing "Locked Door". Can't use oven or close door

I had the same problem happen tonight. I have an XL44 self-cleaning gas range. We unplugged it for several minutes and pressed 'cancel' a bunch of times--neither worked. We finally lucked out--opened the oven door and pressed a black button on the upper left side of the front of the oven. It turned out the flashing words and unlocked our door. Weird. There was nothing in the manual about this...

I let the door stay open, hold the switch closed with my finger, activated self clean. Let it run for a minute then hit cancel, the stove heating element shut off and the locked door blinked for 5 seconds then finally stopped. Back to normal.
