Pull the machine out and remove the lower back cover. Locate the water valve. With the water turned on and connected remove the 5/16" water line (the bigger one) and then have someone else press the water in the door. If the cylinoid is operating correctly it should spray water out. If it is not operating properly it should at least hum and vibrate. If that does not occur your problem lies elsewhere. As far as the smaller line (1/4") you have to manually advance the ice maker and wait for it to call for water with the 1/4" line disconnected from the valve. You can do this by getting a jumper wire, removing the cover of icemaker, which you jsut grab and pull off, and using the jumper wire insert one end of the wire into the cirle marked m and the other in the cicle marked n. Leave there until you hear a click and sometimes see a little spark behind the modular head wheel. Also if you see ice in the maker that hasn't dumper and the teeth of the icemaker are facing any direction other than two o clock position, the icemaker is bad. Also check the fill tube to be sure the no ice is blocking water from coming in.

SOURCE: No water to icemaker. Water in door works well.

the water that enters the ice maker is controled by a thing called a solenoid valve (electricaly operated) the" water in door system" is a manual operated valve.. typicaly when the ejector rolls around to put the ice in the tray the solenoid opens lets water in then closes could be solenoid / wireing or controler
good luck

SOURCE: kenmore 56541 side by side icemaker nor making ice

1.Bad water valve located in the back bottom of refrigerator.
2. Frozen fill tube going into back of ice maker. (common problem)
3. Ice maker not cycling. Pour water into ice maker cavity until near filled.
Wait a few hours and see if it dumps.
4.In rare cases, the switch in the ice maker body fails. Ice maker will cycle but not tell water valve to refill.

Testimonial: "good advice, hard to determine answer ,working now but can not turn off even if bar raised to stop"

SOURCE: fridge will not make ice

This happens on my Sub Zero. I turn the whole fridge off for 30 seconds and this resets the teeny-weeny "brain" on the ice maker. Simple and can't hurt to try.....

The water will not come out of the dispencer.

There is one water valve but two solenoids, one for the icemaker and one for the water dispencer. If power is getting to the solenoid then replace the water valve. No power getting to the solenoid then the switch at the dispencer is bad.

Icemaker

Do you hear it trying to draw water into the ice tray? If so, there might be an internal problem you can't fix yourself. especially since the fridge is dispencing water. Is the arm inside the ice maker pushe down? This is what tells the ice maker to fill and make the ice.

Let me know if this helps.

Thru door water dispenser not working

Hi jkalmada,
I will give you an easy way to test your refrigerator to find out if the water solonoid is defective.
In the back of the refrigerator you will see a small plastic and metal item called a double inlet valve. The water line from the wall will conect to this item. To check this all you need to do is pull the plugs off of the unit and reverse them. This will cause water to go into the icemaker when you push the water button on the door. If water will fill into the icemaker when you push the button then the solonoid is bad, and will need to be replaced. If no water goes into the icemaker when you push the botton the the switch behind the button is bad. NOTE, be sure to put the plugs back on the correct side of the solonoid after testing, or you may have some water problems.
One other solution that can happen. If the water in the cooling tank behind the crisper drawer is frozen then the water will not make it to the door, so make sure it is not frozen. and the only thing left that can cause this problem is the water filter, but if it is making ice, the problem will not be in the water filter.
