If you go into the tools menu of your router the restore button also restores to factory settings instead of reset button.

How to get pasward

According to the manual (http://www.dlink.com/products/default.aspx?pid=DI-514&tab=3) leave the password field blank and use the username: "admin" without the quotes.

This is the default username and password. Of course, change the password once you log in (since it has no password).

However, if this password doesn't work because it has been changed already, you can reset the router back to the default settings and password. Here's the details from the manual:

To hard-reset the D-Link Plus DI-514 to Factory Default Settings, please do
the following:
• Leave the device powered on, do not disconnect the power
• Press the reset button and hold (use a paper clip)
• Keep the button pressed about 10 seconds
• Release the button
The DI-514 will then automatically reboot itself.

I have tried several times to install the DI 514 carefully following the instructions. When setup is complete, I am not able to connect to the internet. YOU WOULD GET MORE CUSTOMERS IF YOU OFFERED...

The Router should erquire no setup, unless you are trying to configure a password or name your wireless network. I would start by unplugging the router, pressing in the reset button located on the back or bottom of the router and holding it in at the same time that you plug the router in. Then let go of the reset button. This should have reset the router. Now make sure that the network cable coming from your modem is going into the port on the back of the router labeled WAN or Internet. Next, unplug your modem and wait about 15 seconds, then plug back in. At this point, you should be able to get online with any wireless device. Once you can get online, you can go through and configure the router with whatever name and password you want.

I cant connect to the internet when i hook it up to my laptop, well i bought this from a thrift store, so i don't have any idea on how to use it! can you help me out please

The router may need to be configured. You may also try to reset the router to factory defaults and re-configure settings like password, network key etc. First, to reset the router to factory default setting, press the reset button at the back of the router.

Please note that after RESETTING THE ROUTER to defaults, ALL SETTINGS WILL BE LOST AND YOU HAVE TO RECONFIGURE IT. Generally, after hard reset you get the connectivity, however, you have to make the connection secure etc.

All you need is the User Manual for D-Link DI 514
Visit the above link and get the manual for step-by-step instructions.

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

Good Luck!
Appreciate generously, if the solution could have been of any help!

Have a D-514 wireless router and do not remember the user name and password to access the security settings. How do I reset this? Plus I lost the install CD and have new laptop. What do I do?

Try reseting the D-Link back to the default settings by -
Power up the router and press and hole the pinhole RESET button at the back of the router for 5 secs. until thr LEDs flash.
The D-Link configuration URL is http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = blank (just press Enter)

You can now change the password and set up the wireless settings.

To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

Cannot reset or access configuration page.

assuming your pc has previously connected to the router, why did you require a reset. Remove your RJ45 cable and try reset button for 10 secs then let go. The other problem I see is you cannot connect through both wireless and wired to one IP address, you say the wireless lan light flickers and then say it knows you have removed cable, are you trying to connect via two different computers or just one. Please reply on this post and not a new one; it's hard to follow.
