I'd be willing to bet money on both laptops having faulty pwoer regulators on the mother board, or possibly bad power supplies. There is a reason these were cheap and only had a one year warranty. If you can find someone that will tell you which components on the motherboard there are THOUSANDS of laptop owners that would love to know. Those that do are making a fortune repairing these for next to nothing as the actual components are less than $5.00. No don't expect any of them to tell you either- it borders on a conspiracy.
This is not just Compaq- Dell, Acer and every other major maufacturer has the same problem with their cheap low end laptops. They were built cheap in China or Tiwan using the cheapest components that might hold up for a little over a year- hence the one year warranty. I hate to tell all of you this- but you probably need a new motherboard- and guess what? it's usually cheaper to buy another 1 year warranty laptop. I'll probably get flamed for telling everyone this- but it's the truith.

i think the battery is depleted so the power supply can no longer charge the battery
Hi Iceprincess5
The three flashing lights indicate the battery is dead. Since it still wont power up with the cable plugged in I'd say the port has gone. Try wiggling the adapter about in the port to see if it begins to charge. If not then you would need to take it to a laptop repair centre to get a new dc port soldered on or buy a docking station.

Could be a bad mother board or a hard drive..see if you can connect the hard drive with a USB on another machine and run a test on it...

By dumping the power while running you have trashed your Operating System or blown up the Ram
Insert your OS disk and see if it comes to life , if it does then you may have to try a repair from the OS installation CD
If you have popped the Ram then the only solution is to get it checked out on another PC
Turn off the PS3 console, if it isn't already.Press and hold the power button on the console as it powers on, and then powers off again.Press and hold the power button a second time until you hear two consecutive beeps. If your console powers down before you hear the second beep, try holding down the power button again. It should work during the second cycle.Connect your controller to the console with the USB cable when prompted to do so.Turn on the controller. You will now have access to the PS3 recovery menu.Select option three which states "Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files." This option will identify and correct and corrupt files. Your PS3 should now be fixed. If this option doesn't fix your problems, you'll want to do a complete system restore and follow the next step.Turn off the PS3 console by holding down the power button.Press and hold the power button on the console as it powers on, and then powers off again.Press and hold the power button a second time until you hear two consecutive beeps. If your console powers down before you hear the second beep, try holding down the power button again. It should work during the second cycle.Select option 5 which states "Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch." Be aware that performing a complete system restore will cause all data on the hard drive to be lost. This option restores the PS3 back to its original factory condition.
