Worry no more. You can definitely have you printer up and running. Please follow the steps provided below:

1. You must have an internet connection
2. Go to Brother website. Click here to go to their support page.
3. Know the Operating System of your computer.
3.1 To check the Operating System. Click on start then look for "My Computer" or "Computer" then do a right click on it and select properties.
3.2 To know learn more about this you may click here.
4. Once you have noted the Operating system, go back to the Brother's website the select the corresponding Operating System of your computer then selec the language and Click "Search" button.
5. After hitting the search button in step # 4. It will load the search result and look for something that reads "Full Driver & Software Package" under that you will find the available drivers for your printer then Click "Download & Inforation" (Please see attached screenshot)

Have you done an Internet search? I just downloaded the software for the HP printer we have. You want to be specific i your search: "free software Brothers [model type]" and make sure you select the Brothers official website and not one that wants to sell you the software. I just searched. For you to download the software & driver for this, here's what you can do:
-go to solutions.brother.com select USA,CANADA then select United States (English)
-click on MFC and look under MFC-8 series click on your model number -click on Downloads
-select your operation system ( Step 1) ** To check on your operating system click on START>right click on Computer & left click on Properties
-select English (Step 2)
-click Search -click on the link under Full Driver & Software Package
-save it on your desktop & ran it once download is done.

If you were able to print over your network but have suddenly lost this ability Brother has designed a utility to assist in restoring printing capability with minimal user interaction. This utility will automatically locate and update your printer's network address within your printer driver which will restore your printing ability!

This utility is available for Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and 7.

To download and use the Network Connection Repair Tool, follow the steps below:

1. Make a temporary folder on your computer's hard disk as the location to save this file.

• Open (My) Computer.

• Double click on the Hard Disk Drive (ex: Local Disk (x:), where x: is the local hard drive letter)

• Right click on a blank area of the window and select New => Folder or just click New Folder.

• Type: Brotemp to rename the folder.

2. Open an Internet browser and browse to the following link. We recommend using Internet Explorer. http://www.brother-usa.com/downloads/

3. Choose your Product Group, Model, and click View.

4. Click on the link under Your Results.

5. Under Step 1: Select OS, select your operating system.

6. Under Step 2: Select Language select your language.

7. Click on the SEARCH button.

8. Scroll down to the "Network Connection Repair Tool" and click on Information & Download

9. Click on the Download button.

10. On the Software End-User License Agreement page click I ACCEPT if you agree to the terms.

11. Click SAVE.

12. You will be prompted to save the file again. Browse to the folder you created earlier. Double click (My) Computer => Local Disk (X:) => Brotemp and click SAVE. The file will download.

13. Once the download is complete, click OPEN FOLDER or browse to the folder where you downloaded this file.

14. Locate and double click on the nettool_XXXX.exe file. A zip self decompression window will launch, click on DECOMPRESS(X).

I have an external memory unit for the CE-70 [great machine; I ran my small business with four of them yrs back]. The unit is called a Brother MD-200 and I actually have some old diskettes for it. It plugs directly into the typewriter and gets its power from the CE-70. Is it worth something to you?

- Go to the below mentioned link & download the uninstaller for MFC9420CN, Download this utility on your Desktop.

- Now unplug the printer & run this utility to remove the software from the Vista Machine

- Now reboot the machine & configure the computer in clean boot state.
to do that follow these :

To perform a clean boot on a computer that is running Windows Vista, follow these steps.

1. Click Start , type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
   
   If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
3. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
4. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
5. Click OK.
6. When you are prompted, click Restart.

Once you have rebooted the machine, Try to install the Software.

We have multiple 7820s in our office. This would be a configuration problem with your windows XP computer. From the XP computer, open a command prompt and type "ping x.x.x.x" where x.x.x.x is the ip address of the 7820n. Make sure you get four successes. I would then uninstall the brother software and drivers and go to "printers and faxes" in the control panel and manually add the printer.

To manually add a network printer, with it's own print server, on Win XP:

1 Click "Add Printer"
2 Select "Local Printer Attached to this computer"
3 Deselect "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer" then click "Next"
4. Click "Create a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP" from the drop down. Click "Next". this will open TCP/IP Wizard
5. Type in Printer IP Address next to IP Address (Port name will autopopulate) and click "Next"
6. If wizard finds printer, it will show you "Finish" button. If you get a "Additional Port Information Required" window, something is wrong with your printer or windows xp network configuration.
7. When the TCP Wizard window closes, it will take you back to Add Printer Wizard. Select "Have Disk" and navigate to the \USA\WXP\Addprt directory on your Brother Drivers disc.
8. Select brxpadd.inf and click "Open" then click "OK"
9. Select "Brother MFC 7820 N Printer" from the list and click "Next"
10. Select name of printer, whether you want a default, print test page and DONE!
