Sony Handycam CCD-TRV308 Hi-8 Analog Camcorder-the camera no longer gathers light through the lens system. It is as though the cap is still on after taking it off! Any general cause that I could fix.

error 31:22 means camera mechanism has error in take-up reel section and micro processor isn't receiving reel signal so it shuts down playback/ record function immediately. look into take-up reel section of mechanism.

you can do that with EASYCAP usb2, a camcorder video capture card card " USB Convert VHS Tapes CAMCORDER to DVD Capture 0" , on ebay from wanghaostore. 10$. works perfectly, useful to digitalize VHS tapes too.

This cannot be done by you and you need to refer this to a trained camera technician.
Any force applied to remove the cassette will damage the mechanism.

You require an A-D Converter. Analogue to Digital Converter box.
Note: Many mini DV cameras can act as a Converter if they have analogue inputs.
