It should...Maxtor drives can be a bit finicky on older systems. This drive supports the ATA-133 standard. Your board does not. It should work but run at the lower ATA-100 rate.

SOURCE: replacement for INTEL Desktop board D865GLC

I've found an Asus P4SD i865GV online:
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=ASUS-P4SD-NOAGP-R&cat=MBB

It seems to have the same CPU socket, FSB and RAM types, and the chipset is almost the same model. I'd say this would work.

If you can't get that, just make sure to get a motherboard with the following qualities:

Front side bus (FSB): 800, 533, and 400 MHz
RAM type: Dual Channel DDR 400 MHz (PC3200), 333 MHz (PC2700), and 266 MHz (PC2100).
CPU socket: 478

The new HDD uses a SATA data interface as well as a SATA power interface. You will need a SATA cable as well as a power supply that supports the SATA power connectors. Since this is an older machine you will probably need to buy a SATA cable and a Molex to SATA power connector. This should cover any cabling issues that you are having.

Of course you can use it. Put the jumper to set the configuration as "slave" and insert the a plug from the ide cable. If you put the put the jumper to "cable select", put the slave plug and it should work great.

I have a Boot Problem with my INTEL P4 3.0Ghz. 800Mhz FSB,1M L2 Cache, Socket 478 CPU

I have experienced something similar with my new Core2Duo processor and a fairly new Socket 775 processor. Troubleshooting it led me to believe the CPU simply wasn't compatible with the motherboard. Although it's a shot in the dark, I suggest that you try out some of the following: - Did you try pulling out the graphics card to see if you got it to POST then? The graphics card or the monitor may need replacing. - Did you remove the RAM? - Are you sure all cables are attached properly? - Try to take out the CPU, talk to a friend with a socket 478 motherboard and replace his CPU with your CPU. Does it work now? If yes, motherboard needs to be replaced.
