These older Western Digital MyBooks had bad components fail on there I/O cards inside the enclosure, your drive is most likely ok just the hardware failed. You can repair the board or put your drive in a Generic enclosure.

I have used this software and it worked. Paragon Partioning Magic http://www.download.com/Paragon-Partition-Manager/3000-2248_4-10070089.html Apparently the space on the WD was unformatted and unallocated, so it wasn't visible. After partitioning it, formatting it and allocating a drive letter, it workds like a charm.

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electic extensions or just replace them they are probably faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error hope this helps

My western digital mybook is not getting recognised

Hi Tummalapk,

There are several reasons the drive may not be getting recognized.

1. No power, does it light up and spin up(whirring sound), if so it's getting power.
2. Have you tried it on a different computer, if it works there the problem is with your PC not with the drive if it doesn't, continue
3. Try a new USB cable, if it doesn't work, has power, didn't work on a different computer or with a new USB cable then the problem is narrowed down to enclosure or drive circuitry
4. Try a new enclosure, take the drive to your local PC shop and have them transfer the HDD inside into a new enclosure and test it, if that works, buy the new enclosure, if it doesn't the issue is with the drive itself
5. If the issue is with the drive you will need the help of a pro to get your files back, reply with your location(Country, State and City) and I will provide you with a referral to a nearby and appropriate professional recovery facility.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

I have an Elements 250G working fine until my computor started to wear out, and wouldn't show that my hard drive was there, I now have another computor, plugged in Hard drive, and the computor says it's...

If the disk is recognized, you can go to the Disk Management console (right-click My Computer and select Manage in the popup menu). There the disk should be listed, and you can check if it is partitioned and formatted.

Also check the drive letter assignment for the disk, if there is a conflict with some other device one of both will not show. You can simply change the drive letter.

My fantom hard drive was working perfect until i unhooked it to move the computor to another area of the house. now when i pluged it up nothing happened. i may have plugged the usb upside down but not...

First of all you cannot plug the USB upside down. it always will go only in one direction. as for the **** try right click my computer/manage and see if the disk is been recognised? if not you have a driver issue or a disk issue.

My western digital 1 TB no longer works

The data is probably recoverable, the drive may have dust inside the servo causing it to drag down..Opening a drive is never a good idea, but you may try spraying a couple more times.....also, if you can place it in the freezer overnight(i know it sounds crazy) it may help pull everything back into alignment at least long enough to recover the data.\

Good Luck, God Bless

WD external hard disk appears on disk manager but not on my computer nor on disk management

We had a simmilar problem, the disk was initialised with vista. It does not read on any other computor on our network. I recently aquired a second vista computor and tried it out on that. Sure enough it works. Thus the problem is that if it was initialised on vista, only vista systems will read it and not xp or 2000. hopes this helps

Wester Digital My Book 1 TB problems

Try booting your computer first and then connect the usb cable to the usb port on the computer. Connect the power supply cord directly to a wall socket. Also try the usb cable on different usb ports on the computer. If possible also try it with a different usb cable. If nothing works, check the file format system under disk management, you might have to re-format it.

you don't, without voiding the warranty, if you want to void the warranty, you'll have to crack the case along the seams where it's sonic welded together.
