So AFTER you formatted it on the PS3 you were able to connect it to your PC and view files? If so, sounds like the drive has gone bad.

If you don't care about what's on the drive, I'd reformat it. If that works, I'd no longer trust it for files I care about.

not familiar with apple products but if this was windows I would check for virus or similar that's converting some files
Have you tried putting all files on a thumb drive and cleaning and delete the folder they were in and create a new folder

You need to prepare:
1:A blank CD/DVD or USB flash drive
2.A computer which can link to internet
3.A program called Windows Password Recovery 6.0

Get started with this 3 simple steps:

Step 2 -Burn your Windows Password Reset CD:
To burn your CD, you'll need a blank CD-R and the .ISO file of Windows Password Reset.
Step 3 - Put in your newly created CD and remove your Windows password.

UBCD4Win is a bootable CD which contains software that allows you to repair, restore, or diagnose almost any computer problem also has a bios reset tool which can remove your password and bios password
you will have to burn it to a disk as an ISO then you will have to boot from the disc During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS the scroll down to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart (note after you have removed your password you will have change fist boot back to your hard drive) Hope this helps

Their is no software for it, nor their is any requirement for any software to use this device, its a plug and play device like a flash drive. Just make sure you turn on the power for this thing before you connect the usb cable to it and then to the computer and you will see a device poping up if you have the My Computer window open up. If it does not come up then it means your new device is bad, simply get it replaced.

I HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM! or at least this works for my my book 1tb external hard drive. when i initially connect it i get the 'new device detected' pop up thing, but then it doesn't show on my computer. However, I have found that keeping the device pllugged into the computer but removing then replacing the power source from the device causes it to show up. That's all I did, unplug the power cord on the back and replace it. The computer says 'new hardware detected' and 'found my book mass storage device,' then it appears on my my computer tab. Hope this works with you as well!

well if you formatted it and want to recover the information that was on it there are several programs you there that can do just that. first...stop trying to fix it. here are some links for the software to recover your files and programs/data.

let me know how this comes out. just know the actual recovery percentage without loss is around 97.3%. meaning that not all files are recoverable.

It seems vista is the problem. On older operating systems the disk's work fine. My dis was formatted with vista and as a result showed exactly the same message when plugging it into a xp system. Back on the vista it works fine. The ntfs is native to win NT/xp there might have been changes in vista. Also do not use the firewire cabling, i had numerious problems until i reverted back to the usb.

THIS WORKS....Here try this...unplug everything including the power cable...press and hold the button on the unit for 10 seconds. after that hook the unit back in the power cord first..and it should work...files and everythin are there...I got this from tech support and it worked for me

The "path" is the full name of a file or a folder, e.g.,

C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

If the path has too many characters, you get the error-message that you reported.

If you can, rename one of the folders, using a shorter name.

I believe this is a trojan. I have the same problem. I found by going into Properties-shortcut tab- you have to rename the shortcut to the correct shortcut. You should notice some wierd file name like "keuiku.scr." Simply rename it to the original name and it works for me.

Hi Guys,
Not all WD have inside the box a software product key for booldy Memeo Auto Backup thing. You need to buy the software and until wou get tha cash you can use free trial version.
They are quite pathetic how the trick the clients with unfriendly software provided by a "third party".
So we need to dig for more cash for the "master of puppets"
Next time I will buy only products with hard and soft inclucluded in the box. I on a learning "curve".

It would be good if you could write your camera's model. If there is no response then most probably it's a hardware problem. If it's under warranty take it to the shop that you bought it from; Otherwise, try a nikon repair center, it could be something simple... Good luck!
