I used it a lot one day. Maybe it got too warm. Now it makes the initial warm up sound...continuously. Will not stop making that sound AND will not respond when I try to print anything. Sounds like a warm up cycle that will not stop. "Cycle" sound, almost a click, like something inside turning or wanting to feed a page, every 7 seconds or so. No. 1 appears in screen, like ready to print 1 sheet. Green start button light blinks as in warm up stage. Usually this all finishes after a few seconds and is ready to print. Not now....any ideas!?
Yeah thats an easy one. Your really out of toner, the density sensor is seeing a light development patch, and the firmware ( machine operating software) does not have a clue what to do.
I suspect, ohhhh about 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999 percent sure if you replace the toner cartridge your machine will warm up, set up in a minute or 2 and run like normal.
I have seen that time and again on that machine, The software sometimes simply doesnt know what to do with a light copy indication.
The out of toner sensor is a window type sensor, so if there is a little remaining toner on the sensor, yet the density sensor looking at the patch on the drum is light, the software has no clue what to do, so the machine runs, and runs, and runs, and runs...... A new toner cartridge is a almost 1000000000000000000000000000000000 percent fix.
I am sorry I did not get your in between message, I was not ignoring you.
The machine you have, it detects toner from a patch developed on the drum in between copies. I have never figured out what is going on with the firmware, but sometimes the machine just simply doesn't know when to shut down when the patch is not dark enough and just chugs and chugs.
You are correct, normally you get streaky copies or they fade when it is getting empty.
Now, if you had a Xerox M15, M20, 4118 type machine the black tape would work. That simply has a light shining from bottom to top and clear lenses in the top and bottom of the cartridge, When there is toner is the cartridge no light shines through, when the ink runs out, the light actuates the light sensor and tells you it is out of ink. Sadly that system is horribly inacurate.
Anyhow, I am glad to have been able to help. any time you have any questions look me up, If I can help I will, but also if I don't know for sure, I will tell you that also, but try and get you to the people who can answer you.Glad it worked. Good job.
. Oh yes, by the way, I was going to answer the life of a cartridge if you open it. Your life of the cartridge is not affected at all if you are talking about a laser printer type cartridge that uses powedered ink, also known as dry ink or toner. If you happen to open one and find out you dont need it at that time. Just be sure to wrap it back in the plastic and and rebox it. You will not lose any life on it. NOW, if you are talking about an ink jet carteidge, then you are right to be concerned. The liquid inks will not necessarly themselves dry out, but the small jets and pads that hold and dispence the ink will clog and otherwise get sticky and not work properly if left unused. So many different technnologies available, and there are so many things unanswered clearly.
Thanks also for responding back to let me know if the resolution I suggested worked. A lot of people dont let you know one way or another, and I greatly appreciate it when someone takes the time to let me know. Much appreciated.

Usually answered in minutes!
Thank you for your help. There is usually an indicator that toner is low, a pyramid of dots. Maybe J1 in the window, not sure about that. Since only the #1 appears in the window now, I am hesitant to open a new toner cartridge package because I don't know how well it will store if it turns out I don't need it now. I took the toner cartridge out of the machine and shook it from side to side and replaced it. No luck. I once heard that there's a sensor that the machine reads to know when the toner is low and that if you cover that with tape, it will fake out the machine and you can get some more copies out of your cartridge. I can't tell where the sensor is. Any ideas on this one?
Also, usually when toner is low, copies begin to fade some before I have to replace the cartridge. Copies have not faded any this time. I am still wondering if I overused it and maybe wore something out. I hope it's the toner. Just wanted to run these ideas by you. thanks!
It IS a 100% fix! Thank you!!!!!!!! You are soooo right. Really, thank you!
You da man, that's for sure. I have laser, so the powdered ink knowledge is good to know. It's working like a charm and I use it a lot, so really, THANK YOU again. Probably a lot of good printers thrown out from lack of knowledge.
