A hard drive will work almost anywhere as long as you have the correct connection or adapter. You also need to make sure BIOS recognizes it if internal.
what kind of noises does it make, beeping, clicking, a muttered plan about slaughtering all humans? if beeping, check to make sure that your ram is properly seated, (unscrew the cover on back pop it out and put it back in make sure it snaps into place). If clicking, probably the hard drive (i had the same problem on mine) the good news is its pretty easy to swap out, the bad news is you might not be able to salvage anything on the old one. (now is when you will feel really smart if you have been doing regular backups) If computer is muttering about killing all humans, unplug it remove the battery and contact local exorcist. hope this is helpful
