Renew the IP Go to Start > Search (Run in XP) and type cmd ENTER. In the command prompt type ipconfig /release ENTER. Then type ipconfig /renew ENTER. This just refreshes your IP. Test it.

Under ADVANCED SETUP: The options listed for 1st,2nd ,3rd Boot device include: IDE0 means Pri master IDE1 means Pri slave IDE2 means Sec master IDE3 means Sec slave

what is the exact error? you may want to make sure no password is set for it in the BIOS and try to boot to the Windows CD and run the format option throught it or the recovery console

f you can already login to this computer and you have administrator's rights, then you do not need the administrator's password. You can go to the Control Panel - User Accounts to set up other Users or change the password on the various Users as well as the administrator.
If you need the administrator's password to set up a new user then there is a way to remove the administrator password.
You need to download Hiren's utilities and make a boot CD with this utility. You most likely need to do this from another computer.

you need to reinstall operation system

Clearing the CMOS (BIOS setting storage) will clear the password.
Go to the Dell website and look for directions on how to clear the CMOS,
or just removing the button cell batter for a few minutes, with the computer unplugged, should also clear it.

The problem is with the AC adapter itself and is a very common problem with Dell AC adapters. My suggestion would be to get an aftermarket AC adapter that can be purchased on eBay as the Dell adapter is around 100.00. You can pick up an aftermarket one on eBay for around 20.00. The problem is a resistor inside the AC adapter that senses when a Dell branded adapter is inserted. What happens is that the resistor will get damaged and since it doesn't recognize the charger as a Dell branded one anymore it won't charge. However it will still run the laptop as long as it's connected. A lot of aftermarket AC adapters bypass this function and work perfectly fine.

I would open it and look to see if the DC jack is damaged. It could be arcing to another connection.

As far as I know there is no power fuse on the motherboard.

But can you try this: Power on the laptop without the battery equipped, only use the AC power adaptor.

The repair really isn't too complicated most times. hardest part is usually removing the old one. I haven't looked up that specific model, they all are different but all the same. Some are placed on a separate small board. some are soldered to the main board. If your considering purchasing replacement board anyways, I would try and fix it and then if that doesn't work exercise your other options.

If everything works OK I wouldn't be concerned what the system thinks it is. If you go messing with the bios, and install the wrong version, the your system won't work at all! As long as the system does what it is supposed to do I would care less what it shows as a system name, and wouldn't worry about it.

goto start icon in your toolbar.

goto run

type: cmd (press enter)

(a black box will come up)

type:
ipconfig /release (press enter)
ipconfig /renew (press enter)

if this does not work, goto start, control panel, view classic settings, click network, you should see you network connect as an icon here, right click the mouse over the icon, select repair. the computer will do a variety of things.

sometimes hotels have a login page that you have to log in through as a guest with your room number to get them working. or, the router might be set to MAC filtering, in which case you need to give the admin you MAC address so you can get on the network.

double check that you are actually getting on the right network. sometimes people set up dummy networks to capture all your data.
