How can i add some new music

Typically you insert a music CD disk and the unit will rip the disk into its music directory. This procedure uses Gracenote to populate the MySQL database with information about the album and each song. My current experiance is that the Gracenote interface code in the SMS3 is no longer suported by the current Gracenote network portal so the SMS database is not properly populated.

Unfortunetly the MySQL database schema is not simple to modify, having several tables and associated indicies. Try to connect from your browser to the IP address of the SMS3. You may have options there to add music to the import folder which will populate the music database sans the Gracenote info.

With no support from Russound to go further you will need to change the root password to one your own by attaching the SMS3 hard drive to a Linux computer. While you are doing that I suggest you (dd) a copy of the SMS disk for later use in case of disk failure. You can use this copy later to mank a duplicate disk for the SMS3. This is not trival and you will need help from a Linux or Unix System 5 tech to really do much on the server side. That said it is just a Red Hat Linux distro with some really great script software running the media server. Russound did custom the boot ROM on the VIA MOBO but that was just to get the splash screen and a video trick to work (just guessing about the video).

I get operation failed everytime I try to update gracenote

HI, check the version of your update. You might be using the wrong updating software to update or the update was interrupted.
Make sure that you are using the right software update.

Take care.

Not reading any cd format

Hi i have just been able to sort this problem, if your system says "NO CD" after it is inserted then the CD is not sitting right inside, solution for this is, join the philips club (free) and update the firmware and update the Gracenote software

1, insert the cd so it is in then turn it off and unplug then take another cd insert it in slowly to push the other one down a bit until it stops (may only move a couple of millimetres, you are only using the cd as it fits the slot so don’t try and insert it!!) plug the centre back in and turn the centre on, it will boot back up and eject the cd that’s still in, wait until it is fully booted and insert the cd again, that should work

OR

2, insert the cd so it is in then turn it off and unplug then you can open the product and physically push the cd down (be careful when you take the lid off as the cd will not be fully slotted down and there are a couple of cables that can pop out but they are easy to put back and obvious) Put the lid back on and plug the centre back in and turn the centre on, it will boot back up and eject the cd that’s still in, wait until it is fully booted and insert the cd again, that should work

any probs just mail back and ill help as much as i can

Saving music on hard drive

After the MP3 songs are transferred from the PC to the Music Center via DMM, do not disconnect the power cord. The Center is updating its internal database to mark the changes of music library. Wait for around 20 minutes to let the Center update the database completely. When the internal updating is complete, you will be allowed to turn the Center into ECO Standby mode.

Downloading a new cd onto Gracenote

First, you have to download a cd player software of some sort, i.e. itunes, wmp, or realplayer.  Once it is downloaded on to the player, you can sync your iriver with the player and you will have fun music to listen to on your mp3 player:)
