Switch on machine. Works for a second or two. Switches itself off for a second or two then switches itself on again! etc.... Haven't tried to fix it. It has switched itself off before ...three times! The last time I left it to 'cool down' for about 15 minutes then it only worked for a minute or two before switching off. Now it's on/off as decribed. Is fixing a possibility?

There is one more filter under where the collection tank & Hepa filter sits -- there is one screw that holds the cover down - remove that filter and clean it that will help. I also find I need to vacuum the hepa filter as well- it is too expensive to replace all the time. The Hepa filter can be placed inside a plastic bag and shaken really good to get the dust off of it

SOURCE: power switch will not work

Hoover U6437-900 U6439-900 Windtunnel Upright
seems there is a short in the power switch, is that possible, I have it disassembled and seems there is power going into the on/off button, but will only sporadically turn on

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
This could be a defective switch or it could be a loose connection or wire – chances are that it is a defective switch and needs replacement – this could be a slider switch of which does wear out and that is why it will comes on sporadically – if there is a local vacuum cleaner shop in your area they can test the switch and possibly sell you a new one

I think the switch is broken--it will come on, but the switch does not stay engaged. I'd like to try to fix myself, if possible. Any thoughts?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
Hoover Telios Canister Vacuum Powerteam
When you uninstalled the switch did you mark the wires to duplicate the procedure in re- installing the part, it is possible that you have a bad switch, please check your owner’s manual for the trouble shooting guide to see what you might have done wrong. If the switch is wired correctly it should work, but one wire could be off and not connected correctly then the switch will not work. Feel free to contact your local vac dealer. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

When i switch my henry hoover on it works fine for exactly 50 seconds then switches of for approx same time then comes alive again for 50 secs and so on...driving me nuts.

sounds like some sort of blockage, If there is a blockage in the hose, or if the filters are dirty, the thermal overload switch will cut in saving the motor from overheating, Clean filters and check for blockage in hose. Hope this helps.

Kirby G5 shuts off by itself

this could be a couple of things, first I am suspecting it may be the cord. goes for so long and shuts off, possible break in the cord. Usually the machine will have normal operation at this point.

Overheating or unusual warmness coming from the machine itself, could be a possible motor problem. Usually a burning smell is associated with this.

Thirdly, perhaps the "deadman" switches are not covered properly. this could be as simple as the bag container where it joins to the machine has come loose or dislodged enough to shut the machine down. There is also another deadman switch located on the brush housing and the attachment hose. If those have been switched recently try re-switching it back off and on again to see if that corrects the problem.
Good luck!!

Dyson DC24 roller bar doesn't work from first try - and this is my second one

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC24.

Your machine has two switches on it's upper body - a red on/off switch, and a silver brush control switch. When you press the red on/off switch and recline the machine into the vacuuming position, the brushbar should rotate automatically - you do not need to turn the brushbar on manually every time you use the cleaner. If you want to vacuum a hard floor or a delicate rug, you can turn the brushbar off using the silver brush control switch.

It's important to note that the brushbar will never rotate when the cleaner is standing in the upright position.

If you find that the brushbar will not rotate when you turn the machine on and recline it into the vacuuming position, the brushbar may need resetting. For directions on doing this, please follow the steps shown in the video below. When pressing the reset button in the red recess on the side of the cleaner head, it may help to use something like the eraser-end of a pencil, and to push it in until you hear and feel an audible 'click'.

This should resolve the issue, but if you need any further assistance, please call us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1866MDYSON (US), so we can help you.

Kind regards,

Jack

Hi, each time i turn on the vacuum cleaner, the water in the tank will bubble and foam causing an overflow although the water level is just right. i will have to throw out the water and refill again....

Try changing the water before you turn it on the first time -- that will probably help you resolve the issue. It seems like there is probably some sort of soap or carpet shampoo in the system causing your foam issue. If your carpets have been shampooed or if you have spilled soap or detergent on your carpet at any point, the vacuum is probably picking up remnants of the soap when you are cleaning, and it is working its way into the water supply of the vacuum. This will continue to happen until you have completely removed the soap from your carpet -- and if you haven't cleaned out your vacuum very well. Try rinsing out the hoses and water tank really well, to make sure that the soap is not stuck in the vacuum itself and give it a try. Hopefully just rinsing out the machine will fix the problem.

CLEANER SWITCHES ITSELF OFF AFTER A FEW MINUTES USE. IF LEFT FOR SOME TIME, IT WILL START AGAIN FINE, THEN AFTER A FEW MINUTES MORE USE , IT WILL SWITCH OFF AGAIN.

check all filters, if they can be washed do so, if not clean or replace. next check for a clog in the machine and in the hoses. the machine as a thermal device that if it senses an overload or getting to hot, the machine will shut itself off for safety resons.

Electrolux Epic 6500SR Full Bag sensor working, Does not Reset properly

The problem was a sticking switch that was not being reset. The vacuum on/off switch mechanism is comprised of two switches. One is the main switch that turns the vacuum on and off. The second is a shut off switch that gets tripped when the full bag sensor is engaged. This second switch is supposed to get reset when you push the on/off switch on the outside of the machine. The full bag shutoff switch was stiff and it, therefore, was taking a couple of presses of the on/off switch to move the shutoff switch back into the running position.

Full bag system works properly, but doesn't reset easily

Either there is something wrong with your switch. Which it doesnt sound like it. Take it to your dealer or call another one it sounds like the control valve needs to be replaced. I am a dealer 1-866-966-9350.
