Microwave Oven Door Handle Replacement

The door handle can easily be replaced without the assistance of a repairman. This is a common problem with some microwave oven doors.

NOTE: If your microwave is the same model you have this listed under, I could only find one website that offers the handle as a separate replacement without purchasing the entire door (the entire door cost over $200!). The inside of the door has a Black Plastic frame about 1 inch wide. This frame can be removed by placing a thin screwdriver between it and the outer door frame and gently (very gently) prying it away from the door. It takes a little wiggling of the frame but it will unlock. On each end of the handle is a philips head screw that holds the handle to the door.

You need to remove the door to mount in a new handle, you can get replacement here.

You'll notice there are small clips holding the stainless outer door to the black metal inner door. Get a bunch of putty knives (butter knives work too) and work a knife into about every other clip. I did it on the bottom. Once you're sure all the bottom clips are free, and you've removed the three screws on the side of the door, you'll be able to gently pull the stainless outer door away from the black inner door and get to the handle screws.

I bent both doors in this process, and tore the black plastic liner into a few pieces while I was getting everything out, so I had to buy a new door ($200). Be careful.

I have seen your requesty only now and I am sending the diagram to replace handle.

You remove door latch (nr 3 on diagram) first, then you unscrew the screw nr .8 and remove handle (nr.7).

I have the same issue. The Handle broke off my GE Microwave Oven (Model JVM1190SY 001). GE does not sell the handle seperately from what I can tell. I just ordered a new door. It's rediculously expensive. I tried to replace the handle with a nice drawer pull but couldn't find a size pull to match and I broke the plastic cover trying to get access to the screws for the handle, which is why I decided to buy the new door. Hopefully installation is not that difficult. This oven was manufactured in 2001, seems the handles have a 7 year life span.
