Internet Connection Have installed the Belkin Wireless Router fine and it connects up to the net fine but then seems to drop out every few seconds. This is fine with normal internet activity but when you are on chat sights or gaming sights it causes all sorts of lag and freezing. Any help greatly appreciated

the only other thing is your isp must be dropping the broadband connection, ring them up and they will have a log of all your drop outs, as your speed may be causing the problem and may need to be put on a temporary steady lower speed.

My apartment receives its internet connection via ethernet from an external router. I had been using the Belkin F5D7231-4 as a wireless router (not configured as an access point) but recently it dropped...

You don't want to set a static IP address in your wireless router. You'll be connected to the network alright, but the IP address won't be recognized by the primary router. Thus, you'll see you're connected with only local access.

First and foremost, ensure that your Internet connection is valid. Plug the ethernet cable from the wall directly into your computer and test the connection. If you can't get it to work, then the problem is not on your end. Contact the agency in charge of the external router (e.g. apartment maintenance).

If your connection is fine hard wired, you may have bad data or a faulty configuration in your wireless router. I suggest doing a complete hard reset (there should be some instructions with your router on how to do it--some have a small flush mounted button that you have to press for a few seconds). Set up your wireless router as if for the first time. This should take care of your problems.

Bad connection. dropped internet when connected with mac wired or wireless

I'm not sure but it could be that the particular router has some hardware issues. I bought a Belkin wireless N router a few months back and i had the same problem. It only had a short range and kept cutting off in between. I exchanged it with a new router and voila!. it works fine.
And the other thing i've come to notice. At times having the router under the desk or at a corner might not give off enough to provide a connection within the adjacent room so I've had to place the router in a open and unobstructed place. So much for belkins super signalling.

Major issues

I had the same problem. My Belkin N1 Router was constantly dropping the WiFi connection (every few minutes). I tried several solutions I found on different forums:

Change the channel selection from Auto to a specific channel -- I tried all 13 channels, but no improvement.

Update the firmware to the latest (Beta) version -- still no improvement.

Finally I enabled "Protected Mode" and the connection seems fine now.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Wireless connection works and then disconnects itself

look for a program on the web called Net Stumbler
It should be here http://www.stumbler.net/
That will show the signal level from your router.
I have seen this before and it could be several different problems
1. Someone else on your channel
2. Burned out ant or output section in the router
3. Broken Ant wire in laptop

Hope this helps

Losing internet connection when I try to connect laptop to wireless router

Your cloning the mac address - thats the problem. It should use it's own mac address to connect to the modem. You need to power down the modem, then repower after a minute or so to let it connect to the new mac address. The problem you are seeing is due to network collisions betweenj the desktop and the router with the modem.
