Genuine microsoft software victim of software
Boot leg software is common these days. This is why I highly recommend people buy software from a retail store or Microsoft to avoid this hassle you cannot update or do anything legal with this software, in my opinion I would purge XP and load a good copy of Win7 XP is going obsolete in 2004 anyway. Do not use the illegal copy it can cost in serious fines and up to 10 years in prison although odds of that happening is rare however it can happen.
Go and purchase a legal copy of they software. So that you can use it legally. Thanks for using FixYa! John

The Trail version once expired, you may have to buy a license from Microsoft to continue using MS Office.

Restoring .pst files in outlook
The simple way to restore .pst files in outlook is
Choose File-> Import and Export…
Choose Export to a file
Choose Personal Folder File (.pst)
Select the Inbox and press Next (we do the Contacts folder later)
Set the file location to D:\My Documents\My Outlook\Backup\export.pst
Press Finish and you’ll be prompted to set properties for the export.pst file
In the Name field type a descriptive name like "Export June 2004" (yeah, I wrote this guide a long time ago but don’t worry; I still keep it up to date!)
Press OK to start the export
To export the Contacts folder as well repeat step 1 to 4 and this time select the Contacts folder
If the save location is not set to the path you’ve set in step 5 browse to it
Press Finish to export the Contact folder
Close Outlook and copy the exported file to your safe location as described in Backup pst-file

Not enough virtual memory
Step 1: Virtual memory is a portion of your hard drive that Windows sets aside to utilize as memory. When your RAM is over utilized, the operating system can swap pages of data to the hard drive to make more room. Swapping files, or paging, is slow, but it allows your computer to remain functional when your memory space is full. If your virtual memory space, or page file, fills up as well, you'll get an error. Fixing this issue is quick and the process is identical in safe mode or in a typical boot situation. Change Virtual Memory Settings in Windows XP Click "Start" from the Windows desktop. Right-click "My Computer" and click "Properties." Select the "Advanced" tab and under Performance click "Settings." Select the "Advanced" tab and click "Change" under Virtual Memory. Click "System managed " to allow Windows to automatically adjust your Virtual Memory as needed. Click "Custom " to alter the memory space to your own specifications. Enter a value in MB equal to at least 1.5 times the of your computer's memory for the initial . Enter a value in MB no larger than four times your memory for maximum . Click "OK" and restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

SLOW PC
If you really only have 256MB of Ram then that would be the first thing to change. I would upgrade to at least 1GB of RAM for XP. There are also many unnecessary services that are loaded on start up. You can find many tips on speeding up XP by shutting down services you don't need.
The memory increase should make a big difference.
