Bike cuts out at running temperature

You actually may have two problems. First, if you have a spark from a coil, find out why. May be a bad or loose connection. when coils get hot their resistance increases. A leak or bad connection will show up quicker when hot. If the spark comes from the body of the coil, replace it.
Second, your starter may be breaking down when hot. Check the brushes and coils in the starter motor. The same discussion about loose connections also will apply to the starter.
good luck

1982 yamaha maxim 400 will start, run for about a minute, then shut off. It wont re-start until i turn the key off and back on, then it starts right up, to repeat the problem.

Yes depending on the load just because you have water in the battery doesn't mean you don't have a shorted out cell in it. too much, and a spike or short in voltage will shut it down. a battery will only last you under good conditions on a bike will be 12 months. don't be a cheapskate get the battery checked and get you a manual for this bike it will help you in the long run. otherwise it sounds good. Also coils get hot and quit when they get hot and run when they cool. See a manual will help you troubleshoot it.

Bike dies when it gets warm

If bike has a choke it might be sticking as a result of the carby refit. Also floats may be sticking.

Bike will start and warm up fine. After riding till its up to operating temp (running fine) no missing or other problems if you shut it down it wont start back up- it just pops and backfires. Only way it...

the igntion module on the right side of the motor is probably bad its a typical issue with sportsters, if you heat the area around the timer cover with a heat gun and then try to start the bike and it wont start then you know its the ignition module on the sensor plate.

Bike starts fine but after it warms up it has to cool down before it starts have just had the valves adjusted

If you are saying the bike will start fine when cold, but after it is warm it will not start then I would recommend inspecting and or replacing the intake gasket / material. What may be happening is after the bike gets hot the 'seal' is lost and that makes for a lean condition, hence not starting. you may have other issues, however this is a cheap potential solution. Hope this helps,

Trouble starting on warm starts sometimes.

This really sounds like a need to replace the intake gaskets. When the bike warms up the gaskets loose their seal leading to a lean condition that makes it almost impossible to start, until bike cools down. Gaskets are cheap, this would be my first place to begin. Hope this helps.
