SOURCE: broken oil filter bolt

What you need to do depends on where the bolt broke. Is there enough of a stem left to get a pair fo vise grips on it? If so, then go to "Plan A". If not then do "Plan B" etc...

  • "Plan A"...Put some WD40 on the stem and keep the stem damp for an hour or so. Intermittently tap the stem lightly with a plastic screwdriver handle to set up vibrations. Now wipe the stem and break out your Weller soldering gun. Heat the stem with the gun for about 5 minutes. Now put the vise grips on the stem (at a right angle if possible) clamp down tight and see if the stem will screw out. A bit stronger tapping while trying to turn would be good.
  • "Plan B"... Cut off what is left of the stem and grind to a flat surface parallel to the case mounting flange. Center punch the bolt then drill out the center of the bolt. Use a drill bit smaller than the bolt and DRILL CAREFULLY. Drilling at a bad angle can mean drilling into the case. That's a no - no. Use a screw extractor to remove the remnants of the bolt.
  • "Plan C"... Okay, the drill went in at an angle and some of the threads were destroyed or the case got pretty well drilled. Use a tap and die set for re-tapping the old threads back to the original thread. Put in a new bolt and see if the cover plate will seal up when mounted. If so, you are done.
  • "Plan D"... Remove the bolt but leave the cover in place. Now determine if it would work to drill the cover plate and case at the same time then thread the larger case hole for a larger bolt.
  • "Plan E"... So plan "D" is not viable. Would Liquid steel fill the hole such that it could be drilled and tapped?
  • "Plan F"... Take the bike to a machine shop and let them do the bolt removal. I endorse this plan if you lack tools and really don't want to risk doing it yourself.
Please rate this solution. Thanks!

SOURCE: oil leak from the front of the motor

Its funny you should mention this but yes, I had its bigger brother the GS 850 G , same problem, Apparently, in my situation I did the same thing and went to the shop and let those butchers make it worse !!!, the way i found my leak was by washing the motor with a grease and oil cleaner , strayed the whole motor and wash it all off totally, then I turn her on and let her get to operating temp went for a few mile and came back and checked it, for me it was the head gasket   the guys put on and i forced them to do it again,  I found out later that it was common with the suzi's of that model and ended up doing it myself, I used the original gasket and used a compound called gasket goo and it never leaked through out the 8 years i had it . But before you do anything , surly they gave you warrant y on the work so take it back and demand they do it properly.
Cheers and ride safe

What size are the unused threaded holes where the frame hold the rear tire

It is metric threading, most likely M5, possibly M4 (5/4 mm diameter of bolt). You can find bolts to fit in most all hardware or big box stores. The part "where the frame hold the rear tire" is called the rear dropout. Here's a pic showing various bike part names:The Parts Of Bicycle Nomenclature Bike Component Names What Things Are... 2002 Volkswagen Passat / air filters

The intake filter is in a big plastic box all the way to the left if you are looking at the engine, there are four silver clips on each side to pull it off.

The cabin/heater filter is next to the battery. If you are looking at the engine, you need to take the big plastic piece that is closest to the windshield off. Do this by pulling the rubber strip (that runs from one side of the car to the other, holding it on) off, and then the big plastic cover will lift up and out. The air filter is to the left of the battery.

Rear wheel removal on yamaha cygnus

Everywhere I read is wrong. For Yamaha Cygnus-X 125cc rear wheel removal
It is removed from the right hand side. Do not start dismantling the gear box side !
Remove 5 bolts of exhaust. Careful don't loose exhaust seal where it connects to engine. You may need friend to lean the bike over to access bolts underneath.
2. Remove main 24mm bolt on axle
No need to loosen brake !
3. Remove 3 bolts holding swing arm. That's the big triangular bit.
4. Pull off the swinging arm and on axle is special shaped washer. Note which way it comes off.
5. Pull off the wheel leaving brake shows behind.

Had my starter removed and when it was taken out, the reduction gear and shaft pulled with it. How do you lock the shaft back in? Doesn't seem to lock fully in. Is there anything behind the left side...

If your bike is a Big Twin, the starter jackshaft is held onto the starter by a small long bolt. To get this bolt out, you should have to remove the primary cover off the left side of the engine. If the jackshaft came out with the starter, the jackshaft was pulled through the oil seal in the inner primary. I've never seen this done. Go to http://www.bikebandit.com and look at the breakdown of your starter.

How do I replace a drive belt on a 1999 harley

On a Big Twin, you must pull the entire primary drive off the engine.

Disconnect the battery. Take the outer primary cover off the engine. Remove the compensator (engine sprocket) nut. This nut is very tight and has Loctite thread locker on it. 150-165 foot pounds of torque. You'll need to something to lock the chain up so the engine does not turn while loosening or tightening this nut. We use what is called a "locking bar". Remove the small plate with the screw and locknut in the center of the clutch assembly. Remove the mainshaft nut up inside the clutch assembly. It torques to 60-80 foot pounds LEFT HANDED TREADS. Remove the nut from the primary chain tensioner. Grab the compensator sprocket and the clutch assembly and lift the primary drive out of the cover.

Take the small screw out of the center of the jackshaft and remove the starter jackshaft.

From the right side of the bike, remove whatever you have to remove to get to the starter, exhaust pipes or whatever. Disconnect the battery cable and the small wire from the starter. Remove the two bolts holding the starter on inner primary cover.

Go back to the left side of the bike. Remove the four bolts that holds the inner primary to the engine, and the two that hold the primary to the transmission. There's one bolt coming in from the backside that has a braided wire on it on the early models. There may be four bolts holding the inner primary onto the transmission. When you have all the bolts out, the primary will come off easily. If it does not seem to want to come off, you may still have a bolt somewhere. Do not beat on the primary cover with even a rubber hammer. It should come right off.

Now, you'll have to remove the rear wheel, rear shocks, belt guards, and remove the swing arm.

As you can see, it's a pretty involved job on a Big Twin.

Good luck

How do i put a ignition switch on a buick 1997 lesabre

The ignition switch is on the top of the column, below the instrument cluster. You will have to remove the right side air bag, so you should disconnect the battery so you can safely unplug the connector. Both lower access covers left and right, have to be removed. The drivers side pannel has the fuse box, you will have to release the fuse box to get the pannel out of your way. It has a locking tab on the firewall side of the box, and then it pushes up through the pannel. The knee pad that goes the full width of the dash has to be removed to lower the column. The wood grained trim above the knee pad, to the left and right of the column, pops out using a flat tip screw driver, exposing some of the screws neccessary to remove the facia surrounding the instrument cluster, heater controls. air bag ect.. Next you will have to remove the vents to gain access to screws hidden behind them, turn them slightly off center and pry them outward using a flat tip screw driver, first the top and then the bottom. With all of the screws removed, the facia will pop out, it has four spring clips accross the top. You will have to put the gear selector in low gear for enough clearance to remove the facia. This should expose the bolts to remove the right side air bag and the knee pad. The right side air bag connector is under the glove box, unplug it and unclip the harness from the vertical metal support behind the glove box, the glove box will drop down further for better access after you pull the rubber limiters to one side. There are four 10 mm fasteners accross the top of the knee pad and three on the lower side, one of the three lower bolts is hidden behind rubber trim under the glove box . The knee pad should pull free of the dash, There are a few wires attatched to the ashtray, to fully remove the knee pad you will have to unplug these. Knee pad removed you will hace access to the underside of the column, unclip the gear selector indicator string from the lower right side of the column, disconnect the ignition switch plug (7 mm bolt), unplug the dimmer switch. Next remove the four vertical bolts that hold the column in place, starting with the two closest to the firewall, then lower the column. The steering wheel should rest on the seat, you can now remove the ignition switch. The screws securing the ignition switch also hold the dimmer switch and a ground wire, be sure and check adjustment/ function of both switches uppon reassembly

110cc pit bike; The kick start kicker used to

Hello - i don't know whether you have sorted this or not, but ill help you anyway. Well.. First of all to get to the kickstart mechanism, you need to drain the oil. Get an oil tub, or a metal jug, or anything along those lines and place it underneath the engine..
Underneath the engine there is a big bolt which should have a red rubber washer, well.. undo that. The oil will drain out of it, tilt the bike left and right to make sure it's all out.
Now you undo the bolts, holding the clutch cover on, this will reveal the clutch. In the middle of the clutch there is a ring with teeth on it, bend them out and the clutch will just pull off, also there is a circlip so be careful and dont lose it. Now it's time to take the whole engine casing off, just undo all of the bolts, and keep them in order because some are different sizes. There is a large gasket so make sure you dont rip it!
There it is. The spring mechanism, if you want to go further, you will have to take the cylinder off to split the engine to get to the gear box.

there is no top bolt on the gear box. you do have to remove the torque link arm. it bolts to the rearend and the output housing of the gear box. then the 4 bolts on the gear box. you have to remove the trans mount and crossmember also. your trans will not just fall out. you will have to wiggile it as the weight and clutch slpines are holding it in. wiggile and pull rearword.
