Check your ignition switch. It's on top of your steering column also check the starter relay and the fuseable link under hood on fender looks like a wire but has a tab on it that says fuseable link also the neutral safety switch that stops the car from being started in gear

My 1962 Buick electra 225 wont start. When I turn the key the accesories come on but the engine wont start. it doesnt even try to start.

Sounds like the relay in the starting motor circuit has failed, or a starting motor/solenoid problem - have them checked. This can also be caused by a problem in the ignition switch.

Turn key on, but doesnt even click. battery and starter are fine

This may be due to a bad neutral safety switch, is this car automatic or manual transmission?

If automatic try to start in neutral and if manual try to locate switch on clutch pedal and use a jumper wire to jump connector for switch, NOTE; If switch is jumped car will start in gear with pedal not pushed down and car will take off so this is just as a test not a repair!!!!!, good day

Car doesnt want to start. all lights come on when in the on position however when I turn it to start nothing happens it dont even try to turn over it just clicks 2002 hyundai xg350

The starting system consists of:
  • starter motor
  • starter switch, part of the ignition switch
  • starter motor solenoid relay switch
  • starter solenoid
  • starter drive
When you turn your key to start your engine, it just clicks, right? If so, more than likely this is due to a bad battery. Even though your battery may appear to be fully charged, it may have a dead cell, or worse. If you get a jump, does the vehicle start? If so, replace your battery.

Possible sources of the problem if the engine does not crank or the relay clicks:
  1. Battery
  2. Starter motor
  3. Starter motor relay
  4. Ignition switch
  5. Damaged fuse
  6. Anti-theft system
  7. Circuitry

My 98 jeep grand cherokee wont start. It doesnt even click or turn over. battery is fine, headlights, dome lights, all go on. Radio doesnt work with ignition on. I checked ALL the fuses, I replaced the...

fuse 8 40a supplies power to starter relay and ignition switch, to close the starter solenoid and engage the starter which draws directly from the battery. check to see that the starter relay is closing, if not ensure that the park neutral switch is not faulty (open circuit), it provides path to close relay (ground side) on the 85 - 86 terminals. if the starter relay does not close the starter will not run. if you have a spare relay swap out the relay for a quick fix attempt. hope this helps

Check, clean and tighten your battery posts, and the power connection to the starter and ground. Make certain the battery is good and charged, Perhaps you have a bad starter motor, or the engine is frozen (will not turn over). I think the ignition switch is okay, because your lights dim when you try to start. This indicates power is getting to the starter (at least some).

Car doesnt start at all !

check battery
check fuses & wiring to starter
check power at starter main (big red wire)
check for power at starter solenoid (small) wire when key turned start position
if all above are good, try whacking starter body with a hammer lightly while trying to start, don't run yourself over if it does!
replace starter if all electrical good

if all electrical fail test/inspection, ei; no power to starter on small wire, yet big wire hot, check for bad ignition switch

Check and make sure you are getting power to the ignition switch and to the stator wire on the starter. Turn the key on and and measure the volts going to the starter on both wires. You should a atleast 12 volts going to the stator wire and to the main wire from the battery. If you are not getting power there it could be a fuseable link in the power wire from the ignition. I noticed that you replaced the ignition switch make sure the rod from the key switch has not come out of the switch.

Ignition

Sounds like the battery is dead, you have just enough power to have the lights come on, but no cranking of the starter. Try putting the battery on a trickle charger, or hook up jumper cables to another car which is running. Let it run with the jumper cables connected for two mintues before you try and start your car.
