Loud rattling noise coming from engine while accelerating, only happens once in a while. Sometimes at low speeds on level roads, other times on the highway and sometimes going up hilly roads. Sounds almost like the rattling you might hear if there is no coolant in the radiator (this is not the case). When I let up on the accelerator, the noise stops, but starts again when I accelerate. This is an occasional occurrence, does not happen every time I drive. No indicator warning lights.

First thing i would try...... ISOHEET, Red bottle..... allows water to be mixed into the fuel and be burnt out of the tank.
get a good qaulity fuel injection cleaner, if you can locate the brand MALCO, i found it quite succesful..... and go with a full tank of premium fuel such as ammoco or shell......do not use yellow bottle of heet

Sounds like pinging could be bad gas[low octane] usually if a sensor problem knock sensor, misfire, crank sensor would give a steady engine light but have truck scanned some auto stores scan for free such as auto zone / advanced auto check in ur area even though ur truck is not showing a fault code may have pending code which means something not right but didnt break yet also try adding a high grade octane gas or additive and see if their is a change good luck

I would need to have a drive to determine if my diagnostics is correct ?? but the main thing that comes to mind is pinking or pre detonation of the fuel ,cause by the ECU(computer) not timing in the cylinders correctly ,sorry dealer only job

wouldn't be an ignition timing thing or a coil?
