If the park brake isn't applied it is probably on due to low brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir.
This reservoir is under the hood mounted on the firewall directly ahead of the drivers seated position.
There is a switch inside the reservoir that activates the light when the fluid is low.
So if it is low there may be a leak in the braking system or your brakes may be worn.
It may be a good plan to have your braking system inspected.
When you fill it, do not use oil !!!
Use DOT 3 brake fluid only. Anything else will ruin the brake system.

you need to have someone bleed your brakes to get the air out of the system

Check the brake fluid level and top off to full mark if it still stays on then you have a brake system failure in the hydrolic system front or rear brakes are not working and the light is telling you that.

add fluid then recheck for the light, also when fluid level goes down it means the brakes are nearly worn out.

Brake lite on? Check master cylinder. Low on fluid. Your front brake pads are probably low also.
Cig lighter/clock/mirror and probably the dome light out too? Check fuses under dash.
Took in for check engine light? What was the code and what did they do?

This thing happens as the light is set to glow up when the fluid is less. Minimum level has been set just as a refrence to let you know that its time to refill the fluid. So don't wait for the fluid to cross the minimum level. Refill it and the light should go away.
