I have a 2004 silverado 2500...the air bag light "popped"on for no apparent reason...I hooked up my genesis and tried to pull codes but I have no communication...I replaced the sdm under the drivers seat with no luck...this all happened after I replaced both exhaust manifold gaskets and the right head gasket...is there something stupid that I am missing??
tried that with my genesis scan tool...tells me no communication...thats why I swapped the sdm (brain)tried that with my genesis scan tool...tells me no communication...thats why I swapped the sdm (brain)

If this problem is related to your repair i would be checking for a pinched wire somewhere. Try another scanner. Check to see if you popped a fuse. There are crash sensors in front. Make sure you didnt unplg one.

Don't know where you came up with this - truck code showing is flash code 79 pcm ? That vehicle does not flash codes - you need to hook up a code reader or scan tool to view DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes P0???
The first thing you need to know is that there are lots of reasons for the light to come on, and each has its own fault code. So what must be done now is to have the systems control module scanned for the fault code that turned on the light when it was detected.
when the light comes there is a code set in the computer and will need to find out what the code is in reference to the air bag circuit before you can start a diagnoises to repair problem.
Most lightly to be an air bag sensor. You will have to get a diagnostic done (plug it in to a computer) to easly identify which sensor is gone. Good Luck!
There is a clock spring under the steering wheel that provides power to the drivers airbag when turning the wheel, those are known to go out or get a short in them. Take the vehicle to Autozone and have them pull the codes for you to see which bag or sensor is causing the light. As for blowing the fuse I am leaning towards the clock spring since it is prone to high wear from constant turning of the wheel. Hope this helps.....
When the light comes on, it means there's a problem with the airbag system itself. You can't just turn the light off because the system is telling you that the airbag most likely will not deploy when needed. You should have a mechanic look into this....
Possible trouble areas are drivers side air bag, spiral cable in column, wiring to the air bag sensor assembly or the sensor assembly its self. Without a competent technician using the proper diag tools it would hard to pin point the problem.
