Possible trouble areas are drivers side air bag, spiral cable in column, wiring to the air bag sensor assembly or the sensor assembly its self. Without a competent technician using the proper diag tools it would hard to pin point the problem.

The air bag light on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes on and off without reason. I was told by a machanic to get a "blow up belt / seat belt for the driver's side". He said this belt was only...

Not likely that the air bag will deploy without notice, its supposed to be a safety device not a hazard.
the light can mean the air bag(or belt) it may not work, or it is due for servicing, this can sometimes be when they get to 10 years old, if your model has the blow up belt it may mean the belt is out of date, pehaps the mechanic was correct.
You will need a specialist air bag tech, who will check or replace necessary items and restet the warning light.

Air bag light

The airbag system will need to be serviced by the dealership or a body shop that is capable of servicing that vehicle.

You need a special scan tool to access that codes on that vehicle.

Air bag light is on

When the light comes on, it means there's a problem with the airbag system itself. You can't just turn the light off because the system is telling you that the airbag most likely will not deploy when needed. You should have a mechanic look into this....

2007 Passat wagon. I need to reset the air bag warning light.

the air bag light will only show if the ignition was turned on while it was disconnected.

it will defo need to be pluged into the computer to be put out but some smaller garages will have the software to do this and will be a little cheaper.here in ireland VW wanted 50euro to do mine but a small garage done it for 30euro.

you can buy code finders/reset gadgets on ebay but might not be worth it for one job compared to $130.

my suggestion would be to get the main dealer to do it if a normal automotive shop cannot access it.
