2004 chevy silverode service air bag light is on. can i disconnect the battery to reset this

Disconnect the battery before attempting any airbag repairs.
Remove the steering wheel connectors and check they are all clean and reconnect them. Reassemble the steering wheel and horn press assembly then take it to a Toyota service centre or a garage with a Toyota scanner and get the system reset.

Reset (clear) a dash light ---AFTER--- a problem has been
found & repaired ?

Best to use a code reader or professional scan tool,
so you do not loose data & items you my need

Clearing a dash light is NOT A FIX for ANYTHING

It will come back until you find & resolve the issues

I assume you are counting the air bag light flash, If so light flash 19 is for an drivers side air bag circuit,problem which could be low resistance,circuit open ,short to voltage short to ground. and cannot be cleared or reset until the concern is corrected.ford motor vehicles air bag light will go out when concern is no longer present but will remain in memory, I would start by inspecting wiring under dash going up to steering wheel ,the air bag connector is located just to right of steering column when sitting in the drivers seat after removing the trim panel below the steering column and is a yellow connector, Please use caution when connecting or disconnecting any connectors to air bag system ,battery should be disconnected for min of ten min's prior to attempting any work on air bag curcuits. I have seen many problems in the past with the air bag itself also with the clock spring ,question does the horn,cruise control and steering wheel controls for audio system (IF SO EQuIPPED) work properly? if not there is very possibly a clock spring problem

Remove RCM fuse from dash panel fuse box. Fuse F2.10 10 amps. Turn key onfor 30 seconds and see that Air Bag light is lit. Now disconnect battery negative cable for 1 minute, leave disconnected while service is done. now the air bag is disabled. To repower the system turn key on, insert fuse. connect battery, now turn key off for 10 seconds, then turn key on and watch the air bag light. it should go on then after the air bag module is happy that everything is ok, it will turn off.

Thinking the passenger side fuse panel has the air bag fuse.Note:air bag wiring is bright yellow with a blue connector.

BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR IS BEHIND GLOVE COMPARTMENT.FIRST TURN OFF RADIO THEN REMOVE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE AND LEAVE IT DISCONNECT TO DISARM AIR BAGS WAIT 20 MINUTES ALLOWING AIR BAGS DISCHARGING.BEFORE WORKING AROUND STEERING WHEEL OR DASH AREA.

disconnect battert 4 a few minutes and see if it resets

Sometimes the wiring under the passenger seat can become compromised from objects in floor becoming wedged under the seat.May need to be reconnected if possible..Usually if the air bag light remains on , it means the air bag will not engage if needed. Should have the dealer service department check for you.

Usually disconnecting the battery for anywhere from 10 - 30 mins resets any codes stored in memory.

Sometimes however it is a specific amount of "key cycling" that is required. eg: Turn key on, then off, then on for X seconds, then off for X seconds, then start engine etc. etc. etc.

If you have disconnected the battery, and there are no codes present but the light still comes on, there could be an issue with your airbag system. Wiring, or something was not done right.

WARNING : If you intend to work on the airbag yourself remember to disconnect battery for at least 45 mins. The air bag requires approx. 20-60 mins (depending on the vehicle, make and model and year) to discharge. If you do not do this you risk deploying the air bag, and that could ****!
