You have to fix it not find a way around it. There are various fixes here, but I don't recommend the adding resistors route. You best bet is to contact an auto-electrician who will come out with a high level scan tool and program the key transponder and the reset the anti-theft system to recognize it. Car alarm installers often provide the same service.
This is the best reply in the 'Add a Resistor' page, and the one our Expert Jeff Armer would probably recommend;

This is by far the best explanation of what happens and how to resolve. We encountered the issue in the family car and it wouldn't start for weeks at a time. I replace the cylinder and reprogrammed a key or two. It worked for about 4 months then started acting up again. I am thinking that I might have caused damage to the exciter when I replaced the cylinder and it's finally tapping out. I had it used the second key in forever (I don't recall programming it so maybe I didn't). However, today the car kept starting and I looked in the glove box and found the second key as soon as I put that second key in the car wouldn't start anymore. I even tried the first key again and it wouldn't start I gave it 5 to 10 minutes and it started. I tried to sit couple times and it kept starting. I put the second key in again and it didn't start. I waited another 5 to 10 minutes tried the first key and it started took that key out tried the second key and it started. Now it's starting with both keys. Not sure if the second key wasn't programmed and I just programmed it by using it or if it forgot about the second key and just remembered it. I plan to take both keys with me and get rid of the original key which unlocks the door so that I don't accidentally put that in the ignition. I also plan to replace the exciter if cheap enough.
Procedure #1 (Remote Head Keys WITH Immobilizer Chip)
Step-by-Step How To Programming Instructions:
CUT the NEW remote head key for your vehicle.
INSERT the first working remote head key into the Ignition.
TURN the Ignition to the ON position for at least three (3) seconds but no longer than fifteen (15) seconds.
TURN the Ignition to the OFF position and remove the first remote head key.
INSERT the second working remote head key into the Ignition.
TURN the Ignition to the ON position for at least three (3) seconds but no longer than fifteen (15) seconds.
After ten (10) seconds a chime will sound and the vehicle's security light will begin to flash.
TURN the Ignition to the LOCK position and REMOVE the second remote head key.
INSERT the NEW remote head key into the Ignition.
TURN the Ignition to the ON position within 60 seconds.
After ten (10) seconds a single chime will sound and the vehicle's security light will stop flashing.
The vehicle's security light will turn ON again for three (3) seconds and OFF to indicate successful programming.
Test all remotes. Programming is now complete. The remote and key are now both programmed.

Procedure #2 (Remote Head Keys WITHOUT Immobilizer Chip)
Step-by-Step How To Programming Instructions:
ENTER the Vehicle and CLOSE all doors.
INSERT key into Ignition.
TURN the Ignition to the ON position (before cranking).
PRESS and HOLD UNLOCK on a working remote head key for four (4) to ten (10) seconds.
WHILE holding the UNLOCK button, PRESS the PANIC button UNTIL a chime sounds to indicate entry into Programming Mode.
RELEASE both the PANIC and UNLOCK buttons.
PRESS the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously on the same remote until a chime is heard.
Once the chime is heard, PRESS and RELEASE the UNLOCK button on that same remote. Another chime will sound indicating successful programming of that remote. (This MUST be done within 30 seconds)
WITHIN 30 seconds of Step 8, PRESS the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on any other remotes to be programmed. RELEASE the buttons when the chime is heard. Again, PRESS and RELEASE the UNLOCK button on that remote. Another chime will sound indicating successful programming of that remote.
REPEAT Step 9 for ALL remotes (even working remote head keys) that you want to work with your Vehicle.
Test all remotes. Programming is now complete. The remote and key are now both programmed.

Takes the master key to get it started again. The security gives you 3 tries to get the vehicle started, after the third time, it kills the starter. 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Note: You must have two valid keys to add a new key to the system.
1. Insert the first valid key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the
ON/RUN position for at least three seconds, but no longer than 15 seconds.
Then, Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove the first key.
2. Insert the second valid key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to
the ON/RUN position within 15 seconds. After 10 seconds, a chime will sound.
In addition, the Vehicle Security Light will begin to flash. Turn the ignition switch
to the LOCK position and remove the second key.
3. Insert the new key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the
ON/RUN position.within 60 seconds. After 10 seconds, a single chime will
sound. In addition, the Vehicle Security Light will stop flashing. To indicate that
programming is complete, the Vehicle Security Light will turn on again for
seconds and then turn off.
The new key is now programmed. The Remote Keyless Entry transmitter will
also be programmed during this procedure.
Repeat this procedure to program up to eight keys.
In order to program a new key, you have to have two working keys that are already programmed. The engine control is programmed that way to prevent a parking valet from programming their own key.
YOU MUST HAVE TWO WORKING KEYS or the controller will shut off the engine.
The locksmith should have changed the pins in the new lock to match your original key. The controller would have recognized it and let you drive the car. So, you either need to call the locksmith back to fit the old key to the new ignition cylinder, or get it to a dealer so they can instruct the brain to accept the new key. And get two keys while you are at it as a back up.
my 04 ford 6.0 doesnt start some times but if i turn the key on for 20 seconds then turn key off and do it again for 20 seconds and the 3rd time it starts but dont crank it over till the 3rd time its been working for me
Hello, OK if you have a Black working key and you want to program an additional key start the car, shut it off immediately remove key insert new key and start car. new key is now programmed. If you don't have a key then this is what needs to be done: turn on ignition engine off, the security tell tale should be on. Wait 10 minutes, the security should be off. turn key off. Repeat the preceding steps two more times (total of 30 minutes) WAIT AT LEAST 10 SECONDS between each time. On the last step be sure to turn ignition off (10sec) before you start car.
hi well this is a bit long so if you can bare with me i will try explain how to , clear system to decode, and recode as this is what it sounds like that the coding has gone from the ignition key....ok here goe's
to sync key with car
depress lock or unlock button
manually lock the drivers door within 30 seconds of the above
system should now work....if not do next bit
switch ignition on ( using non chip key )
manually lock drivers door using key ( another one, hopefully you will have more than one)
press unlock button 5 times, in one second intervals
indicators flash 5x for every time signal is received
switch ignition off and remove key
that's the de-programming done...
to de-program the system if above fails..........
switch ignition on ( use key without remote )
manually lock drivers door using key to be synced with car
complete the following within 30 seconds of doing above
within 5 seconds press the unlock button on key
indicators should flash once
wait 5 seconds
press unlock button once to confirm programming
vehicle should unlock
this also will confirm deactivation of programming mode
switch ignition off remove key..that should be it, then try new programed key in ignition.
to re-program system and sync with key
switch ignition on
manually lock drivers door using key ( another one, hopefully you will have more than one)
press unlock button 5 times, in one second intervals
indicators flash 5x for every time signal is received
switch ignition off and remove key
that should be it, if no joy then will have to main dealer i am afraid...hope this helps
if you bought the coded keys from the dealer that will turn the ignition then its easy, start ur vehicle with the old key and immediately after it is started shut it off and insert the new key and start it again, you only have like 5 seconds to do this but thats how you do it
1.Turn ignition from OFF to RUN 8 times within 10 seconds, with the 8th time ending in RUN. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming mode. 2. Within 20 seconds press any button on first keyless remote. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming. 3. Within 20 seconds, press any button on second keyless remote. Door locks will cycle again to confirm programming. 4. Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.
