Not sure of model or year but older honda civics had problem with a device called an "ignitor" located inside distributor, was a recall item at one time with free replacement. YouTube has videos on replacement.

Won`t star

Hello Sir:

There are 2 Problems that can prevent your car from starting:

#1) Make Sure your getting Fuel

#2) And Check to see if you are getting Spark to your Spark Plugs,By pulling off 1-Spark Plug wire and take plug out also, Put spark plug back in the Wire. Have someone crank the engine over, and see if theres Spark at the Spark Plug.

#3) If your car is'nt even cranking over, then the problem is in either your Ignition switch, starter relay, starter,or it can be as simple as a relay or Fuse, check in your fuse box inside,to make sure ALL fuses are good.

#4) Then under your hood you should see a plastic Cover Fuse and Relay Block as well, Check these also,Mainly if its labeled Crank,or starter. Also check your Starter relay. they are a Larger componet in the box under your hood.

#5) to check this relay you'll need a OHM meter to check for resistance. also check the EMC Fuses or Relays.

#6) if no fuel check fuel pump fuse and replace fuel filter 1st.

#7) If no Spark make check your Coils.I'm sure if you follow these tests you'll locate your problem.

Engine cranks but no fire.

Hello, When you say no fire do you mean that you are not getting the engine to fire up or are you saying that there is no "fire" (slang for spark) at the plug wires? I would check for spark at the plugs. It should be a nice white blue spark. Tiny spark or no spark may indicate a faulty coil. Check the coil too. Be careful when you check all of this. Make sure your wires are in great condition as you can get electrocuted. If this checks out, check your distributer cap for cracks and scale build up. Any crusty flakes in the cap may be indicating that your cap is crakced. Check the rotor button and remember how yo took it off. Is it worn out or broken? Replace any part as needed. Are you getting gas? Listen for your fuel pump to hum as it kicks on. Check Fuel pump relay (look in fuse box under hood and in glove box) The last time it ran, was it running normally? Did you just shut it off and it would not start? Was it stalling? Did you take it out 4x4 and bend a fuel line? How many miels on it? It could be your computer as well if you have high miles but this would be my least suspect. There is also an ignition module under your distributor cap that can fail. (Two wires) Is your distributor tight on its post or is it loose? Check the simple things first and please let me know what happens or if I can be of more help. Good luck!

Hello,

Put on a "spark box" into your ignition. I have a Mallory HI-Fire 6A (?) and the car starts and runs good. You will also get better gas mileage and pass smog test.

Nissan ga15 engine idle adjustment locations

The idle speed is computer controled, it is not adjustable, you most likely have sludge in the throttle valve and the idle speed control air bypass valve, clean them with carb spray with the engine running.
