Fuel pump sometimes when i turn the key over to run but not crank the lights on dash wont come on and fuel pump dont wind and truck will just turn over but not start up then sometimes i turn key and lights come on the dash and pump winds and the truck will start and run fine what is causing this

Crank sensor would be what I would check next . If it gets hot and does the cranks but no start issue see if the tachometer registers while cranking it over .

First key on you should hear pump run a couple seconds if you think it's the pump have someone crank it over and another pound on the fuel tank this sometimes makes the pump motor start to run, if it does that may be enough for you to drive to a shop for a new fuel pump.

have someone turn the key to the on position while you listen at the gas door, dont run it just turn the key where all the lights on the dash come on you should be able to hear the puimp run for a few seconds. also see if you have fuel coming out of the line leading to the fuel rail you have to disconnect the line put a container to hold the fuel if it gushes out don't start the car just turn the key to the on position. If no fuel and no sound you have a bad pump this is common after runing out of fuel, the fuel in the tank keeps the pump cool if no fuel the pump overheats and locks up

You need to be very quiet for this test, but try turning the ignition key until dash warning lights are on, but without cranking the engine. Listen for whirring noise from fuel pump in the gas tank. You may even lift out the rear seat base, to pick up any sound as best you can. If you can't hear anything from several attempts then it's likely you have a failed fuel pump. The fuel pump can sometimes suffer damage when running out of fuel.

This is a generic answer: Assuming that the engine starter turns and cranks the engine; it could be a fuel system related issue. Start by looking into these areas: fuel filter / fuel pump / injectors. Check for open / blown / missing fuses, and if it has been in an accident, some models have an "inertia switch" that is designed to cut power to the fuel pump after being bumped hard. You'll have to locate it and reset it if it has been tripped. Many cars with electric fuel pumps run when the key is inserted and turned to the run position. If you have someone crouch down near the gas tank when you first turn the key from off to run, they might be able to hear the pump run. It will run for a few seconds and shut off - unless the key is turned to start and the engine is runs.

Could be fuel pump. If you noticed that it was taking a long time for the engine to start before this problem occurred. If you do not hear the pump when you turn the key, then get a pressure gauge hooked up to the fuel line and check the pressure. Fuel pump is in the tank it will take you a few hours to replace.

If you dont know what the fuel pressure is, dont guess. Buy a $20 fuel pressure gauge and hook it to the fuel injector rail and see what fuel pressure you have 35-40 psi. Do you hear the fuel pump run? it should run for 2 seconds when you turn the key on. Do this first,Sometimes....... you can get to pump to run a while longer if you rap on th tank while someone is cranking, that may get it to run long enough to get to a repair shop.

Battery or starter. Sometimes the battery will have enough power to activate fuel pump and dash lights but not enough to turn starter.

u will have to go to the dealer to get a key blank copied from ur new key(it will have ur chip for ur car),take ur vin number

turn key to on position do not crank engine when gas gauge moves up and all lights up in dash you should her a grunt sound from back seat area to deterimne if fuel pump is working no grunt no fuel pump!!
