There may be to much pressure on the steering wheel lock for it to go into the off position. put the parking brake on. put the shifter in neutral gently turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction of where the wheels are pointed and try turning the key to the off position. Good Luck
The stuck in park is easy disconnect the linkage at the transmission and move the selector red by two notches (by hand) this will place the transmission in neutral if there is resistance chock the wheels release the handbrake and rock the car ( back and forward to take load off the parking parking pawl which is stuck) no electrics is because of the ignition position remove the ignition switch from the column this isolates from the ignition lock and manually move the slide until the engine starts (make sure the hoot & hand brake are applied in case you ******* up the selector job and left it in gear. once the engine starts reconnect the transmission linkage. restart the engine and run the selector through the gears if all is OK.either cut the old ignition lock off the steering column and replace or get a locksmith to remove the key and then re-cut a new key from the spare or from the manufacturers code. all done
make sure battery is 12.6 volts. if not you not going to be able to get transmission go all the way in park to remove ignition key.when you press brake pedal it energize brake transmission shift interlock to get transmission all way in park to remove ignition key.if all is good battery is 12.6 volts.sound like ignition switch lock cylinder broken more likely.
Check under your dash at the levers for the Brake pedal. There are some Interlock switches that get hit by feet fairly regularly. The switch that makes the gearshift unlock is on the Brake pedal. You have to have your foot on the brake to shift out of Park.
When the shifter is stuck you will not be able to remove your Key from the Ignition. You need to press on the Brake and then try to get the trigger on the shifter to move into Park. Once in Park everything will be okay.
I have towed several of these with same problem. Sounds like to me it needs to go back in for the ignition switch again. Unless it's not going into park. If it's not going into park it would be a shift linkage issue and needs to be adjusted. Chris J.C. Towing & Recovery
Push gear selector up past park and it should loosen up, or press hard on the brake pedal. Shifter up past park usually loosens it up. Common GM problem.
CHECK BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH FUSE OR BRAKE - TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK SOLENOID FUSE.IF BOTH FUSES OKAY.THE PROBLEM COULD BE A BAD BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH OR A BAD BRAKE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK SOLENOID.YOUR IGNITION SWITCH IS BROKEN.MAKE SURE YOUR BATTERY IS 12.5 VOLTS.IF NOT YOU CANT SHIFT INTO PARK.
There a several recalls that deal with this problem, it seems that due to a defective part in the ignition interlock system at times the key not be removed from the ignition, it appears the issue is corrected by installing a new lock cylinder, to read the full text of recalls on this issue go to link listed below.
