    For a little while my airbag light would come on and go off intermittently and now it stays on continuously. Now that the light stays on my steering wheel controls i.e..... stereo volume and preset controls, and the cruise control are inoperative.

The most likely cause is the rotating contact in your steering wheel, often called the air bag clock spring contact, you can have the air bag system tested for trouble codes by the dealer when the light is on, but based on allot of past repairs it is most likely the clock spring contact assembly.

Why is the airbag light on in my dodge caravan sport 2003
Normally the light comes on when airbag fuse is blown. But it could be a bad airbag sensor located at the front of the vehicle. Check fuse first, if that's not it, I would recommend taking it to a mechanic to have sensor changed. They are very delicate sensor and could deploy airbag if not done carefully.

this is telling u that a fault has been detected in the airbag circuit by the airbag diagnostic monitor module (system is disabled when light is on), the most common cause is the rotating ribbon contact called the clock-spring contact has a break in it's circuit to the airbag on the steering wheel. To replace this you must disarm the airbag system and remove the steering wheel. Follow factory protocol for disarming airbag or serious injury can result from unwanted deployment of the airbag

Hello, I am having the same problem, But the dealer told me that most often a water bottle goes under the seat and when people pull it out they unplug the airbag, you may want to look at this first. resetting the sensors would be next, I am looking for that next.

Airbag light goes off when passanger seat in use, & on when not
even with exchanging the sensor the calibration could be off. without pulling codes from the airbag system it would be hard to guess for sure but id say you need to have the dealership do a recalibration on the seat
