This involves the Whirlpool ed22dq side by side. This problem may not make much difference in model number. I have a through door ice and water dispenser. The ice maker makes ice fine and does shut off with the proper level of ice in the bin. The problem is the ice continues to come out the front dispenser even when the lever is not tripped. I went in and pulled the wire off the motor which stopped the action. However even then when the switch on the door is on "cube"a part of the unit still runs. I can switch it to "crushed" and the action stops. I really could use your suggestions in this matter. I really don't want to take areas apart that don't need to be. Please help! Thank you...Ken

First pull out the ice bucket and close the door.  Set for cubed ice.  Press the button for ice to come out and listen for a loud clunk noise.  That is the sound of the solenoid.  You can open the door, hold the light switch and press the button and watch for the solenoid moving up and down.  Solenoid is at the back of the freezer in a little square opening where the rod on the ice bucket goes into.  If that solenoid is moving ok then put the bucket back in while the solenoid is in the down position and cubes should work.  If solenoid is not working then it will need to be replaced.  Let me know what you find.

on a whirlpool side by side i get water from the door but no ice. i put power to both sides of the selinoid and it worked fine. it acts like what ever askes for the water to the ice maker is not working. it will despense ice fine if you put ice in the bin.

this could be the:
door switch (usually 2 switches, 1 for the light and 1 for the dispenser) auger motor itself the dispenser switch or the plug near the hinge that connects the door the the refrigerator has a bad connection. this connection is hidden under a plastic hinge cap usually.

To see how the auger goes back together, go the the Sears parts web site and put in your model number. It will show the parts list and a diagram. You may be able to print it out, Don't remember if there is a print option or not but if you have a screen capture program you could also.
