To cool fruit ect you need something much more than a window unit air conditioner, they just don't have the cooling capacity to do that job. You need a walk in cooler to cool food down.

U need that hose to direct the warm air outside the area to be cooled. If you remove it, the hot exhaust will stay in the room being cooled and negate the cold air being directed into the room.
That is why regular room AC units are mounted on window sill. Cold air in, hot air out.
They should at least supply you with a dealer/technician in the area where you currently are to assist you. If that's all you need, I can do that from their site. With that said, yes, it sounds like an unusual problem. Can I ask if this just happened suddenly, was anything changed such as thermostat for example? Was it working ok, prior to this happening? Any other symptoms or changes that you can think of?
It is probably low on refrigerant. You can only check this if you have a set of gauges. Otherwise, take it to an air cond company and they will check it for you.
clean cooler fins and make sure the cooling fan comes on and it must get fresh air to run properly if it is in a small room without proper ventilation it will just keep circulating hot air and lastly if all the above are are met it maybe a bad temp sensor and make sure the unit has enough oil and the oil filter is not plugged and the thermo valve (thermostat) is not sticking best way to check this it to take the temp of each oil carrying pipe going into the cooler and the one leaving the cooler and see if there is a difference in temp using a ir temp meter
if the fan motor is on but the compressor is not : if the compressor has correct voltage up to the terminals and is not operating, the compressor is bad, if ther is not power to the terminals, the start components may be the culprit, if there is no power to the start componenets then the controller is the issue.
Im not sure what type of unit you are speaking about but in general a window airconditioner unit will have an exhaust button. This button generally opens a small door that allows a small ammount of fresh air to mix with the conditioned air from the room. When it is closed all of the air is recycled from the room. To cool a room fastest, close the outside air inlet.
