.i assume the crackle you'r getting it when you are using the built in mics? i;m still in the process of troubleshooting my 2g but this is what I've got so far....the line in dosn't suffer from the crackel, so it cracked here open , didn't see any obvious problems on the board so i disconnected the black wire from one of the built in mics and this is what i found: odd and strange..... the crackle went away but i haven't tested that in depth yet 2. when recording it looked like i was getting some thing on both tracks odd.. thought 1 channel would be dead. anyway i got tired and put it away and haven't gotten back to it yet but about time i did so hopefully this weekend . hopefully i'll have some more useful info.. now a note on my take so fare as to where the crackle is coming from , bear in mind i've only had about 3 hours with the 2g so far so still getting acquainted. i'm getting the feeling it might be associated with the ACG or the record level auto calibration or clipping etc.. because i noticed that it seems like its starting ,checking levels, and setting things the a spike and it resets and starts over again. how ever the pattern is to random from what I've seen so far to to be anything concrete

    Hi there.

  • Anonymous Oct 26, 2012

I have the exact same problem with 3 (Three) identical POCKETRAK 2G's and the all three strated to fail within a couple of weeks. And the one of them haven't been used at alland was kept as a backup. They must have a build-in fault based on date and time. Thats my guess anyway. Thanx YAMAHA for supporting your products . ..

Masterlink V2 OS was working great for months via digital connection from DAW. Suddenly there's pops and crackles in the recordings, but not coming from the DAW. Help Please!

Pops and crackles in recordings can be caused by several factors, including issues with the audio interface, cables, or the digital connection. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to narrow down the problem:
  1. Check the cables: Ensure that all audio cables are properly plugged in and not damaged. Try swapping out the cables to see if the problem persists.
  2. Check the audio interface: Test the audio interface using different input sources and output devices to see if the pops and crackles still occur. If so, it may be a problem with the audio interface.
  3. Check the settings: Check the sample rate and buffer size settings in your DAW and the Masterlink V2 OS to ensure they match. Mismatched settings can cause pops and crackles.
  4. Check for interference: Move any electronic devices away from the audio interface and cables as they can cause interference.
  5. Update firmware and drivers: Check for any firmware or driver updates for the Masterlink V2 OS and your audio interface and update if necessary.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be best to contact the manufacturer or a professional audio technician for further assistance.

How do I get rid of terrible crackling when playing back?

Simply put: you can't. There are audio programs out there that can help reduce the crackling / noise, but it will never be perfect; the cure might be worse than the ill.

A techn-savy person could have a try at it; lot's and lot's of time required, or - but could be expensive - you could contact a sound-technician and have a pro give it a try.

After several years of trouble-free service, it no

I'm hoping your problem is intermittent. Then there's hope.

I've been recording CD's for 10 years and have had similar experience on playback (way after it was too late to procure the source and do it again). My symptom was a nearly constant crackling laid over the audio (constant ineffective error concealment or correction).

I'm a professional Enterprise Data Storage (Tape and Disk) career customer engineer, so I know a little about things and how to troubleshoot Read errors.

I could never pin it down to anything repeatable, like media, but it seemed to happen most on CD's-R-US cheapo discs. The best I can offer is try some different brands (or lots) of media and see if you can find one or two that work.

Feed back what the results are if successful. Many people have the same problems.

There is a crackling sound after I record.

The problem was the VIA chipset firewire card. I changed it with a Texas Instruments one. Works perfectly now.

Crackling when recording with saffire

Without much info to go on I would first make sure that your input levels are not set too high when recording causing clipping and digital distortion on playback. Usually this is the thing that causes crackling sounds. Rather hard to fix after the fact and you may have to rerecord those tracks to get a cleaner sound you are happy with.
