I have a CV735 compaq computer and my speakers just quit

Clean the cd/dvd drive with a laser lens cleaning kit. If that doesn't work you will have to replace the cd/dvd drive.

If this is for the same question where you mention the Compaq CV735 Monitor then there are no CMOS batteries in monitors - these are only found in the main computer unit not peripheral devices.

The inbuilt speakers on my laptop do not work. I believe the headphone input socket to be the problem because when i stick my headphones in it only works if i squeeze the laptop near the socket. The input has been quite heavily used so i'm quite certain its broken somehow. Anyway, my layman theorising has led me to the conlcusion that my laptop thinks that headphones are plugged in when they're not and so disables the speaker so maybe if i could disable the headphone input the speakers might work. I'm sorry if this sounds confusing but my computer knowledge is really, really limited. Any help would be massively appreciated. thanks

There are quite a few speakers on the market of different sound quality. I sugest you get speakers that have a built-in amplifier and you connect the powered speakers into the headphone socket on the laptop. Take you laptop to a computer shop with a CD and or DVD and test it with various speakers and then select one that suits your tastes and budget.

Normally the lead which has a plug the same as a headphones plug goes into the green socket on the back or sometimes the front of the PC. The speakers should then already be joined together or have a lead that plugs one into the other.
