Hi, As long as you like the way the speakers sound there is really no reason you cant use whatever speakers you want. To find out the approximate wattage of the stereo you are using look on the rear of the unit and you will find a tag that has " SPECIFICATIONS " on it. There you will see perhaps the a.m. and f.m. frequencies it's capable of receiving also there should be numbers saying something like" 100-240vac or 100-240v~ 50-60hz 1.2amp or 120watts.( if power is listed in amps only-1 amp's equivalent to about a hundred watts)Dividing the wattage by 3 will give you an approximate power out put. Example if your stereo draws 120 watts worth of 110 from the wall it will put out approximately 40 watts to each speaker. Changing from OEM speakers is all right as long as you don't try to hook up some 150 watt peak speaker to a stereo capable of just, say, 10 watts per channel. Doing this will eventually cause damage to the amplifier, not to mention causing about 30 percent total harmonic distortion-which take my word for you will know if you ever hear it! So long story short-use what you wish, just be careful not to overload the receiver-if the speakers are a bit to powerful for receiver you can lessen distortion by turning down the " BASS" as that takes the most power in a speaker. Thanks for choosing FixYa, I hope this helped-good luck, Prodzilla

I have these Sony ss-ec70 speakers. There's four wires coming out of each one. Red and black together and white and blue. Please help. I just would like to know why they are like this and how to hook them...

That may be a non factory modification. Get a small battery and take one pair of those wires and connect to the battery with you fingers on the stripped end of the wires. Listen for scratchy sound and the front and then try the other pair of wires. This will give you an idea on that is going on inside the speaker. Short of using special equipment or opening the speaker enclosure, there is no easy way to tell.

I have a pair of Paradigm Monitor 3 V.2 High Def speakers for my front L&R home theater system. On speaker sounds very tinny with no bottom end. On inspection neither the main or tweeter loo

A few questions to help me help you: (1) Does the woofer cone move freely when you use your hands to move it (or do you feel friction)? (2) have you tried swapping the left speaker for the right to rule out the receiver as a cause?

Sony ICF Speaker Problem

A suitable 7cm 1watt 8ohm speaker is available from Amazon which is shallow enough to fit in. Just search 8ohm 7cm speaker.
My 1980 vintage ICF7600 (analogue SW(x5) MW and FM)'s speaker suffered from the repeated loud click on switch-on caused by a design 'feature' which at every switch-on of the radio placed the entire charging current of the audio output isolating electrolytic 470mfd capacitor through the speaker momentarily until the capacitor had reached full charge at the half rail voltage of the audio output stage single ended pair. Eventually after 30-40 years of occasional use the speaker failed open-circuit! Bad circuit design Sony.
A replacement original speaker was difficult to source, so I obtained through Amazon a suitable 1watt 8ohm speaker for the purpose. This and a 3watt similar item were bought for about £5 each.
Instead of subjecting the new speaker to the same sharp current pulse of the 470mfd charging current at every switch-on, I modified the speaker drive circuitry by replacing the polarised 470mfd electrolytic with a 1000mfd non-polarised electrolytic capacitor and adding a half-rail voltage divider across the power rails formed of a pair of 1k resistors each bypassed by a 470mfd polarised electrolytic capacitor to act as a suitable audio output ground return for the -ve speaker terminal, the speaker's +ve terminal being fed as usual from the earphone feed-through output terminal when no earphone is plugged in.
The audio output circuitry is as originally intended for an earphone plugged in, apart from the 470mfd electrolytic capacitor replaced by a 1000mfd non-polarised electrolytic.

I have bought a Sony Home theatre with total 6 speakers (including woofer, rear speakers (2), Front speakers with stand(2) and onr central speaker. But the centre speaker is not responding during TV,...

That would all be a function of your HTS, not necessarily the speakers.

Get a handle on how IT works, maybe find the manual and perform setup to verify the speakers work at proper levels.

I imagine it has several Digital Sound Processing modes that can create multi-speaker sound from any source.

We recently bought new speakers and the wires have

Most speakers that are not part of a proprietary system of original design will accept a spade and/or a banana plug, likewise with amplifiers and receivers.

You can also bind your strand wires or solid core wire types around the posts and tighten them down.

Aftermarket 6 x 9's

What type of car is it? You can purchase speaker harnesses at any car audio shop that will allow you to snap into the factory plugs. Also, beware if your system was designed for 8 ohm speakers - using 4ohm speakers instead could cause some problems. Most aftermarket stereos are designed for 4ohm speakers, but some factory stereos designed for 8ohms could be damaged if you give them a smaller ohm load.
