Changing remote command mode for sony rdr-hx525 without remote control

When I first bought this sony hd recorder about two years ago, I changed the remote command mode to dvd1 to stop interference with other sony equipment. Recently, the remote stopped working so I bought a new one. However, the factory setting for the remote and hd recorder is dvd3, so it does not work. The manual does not show how to change the remote command mode WITHOUT a remote control. Can someone please tell me how to reset the command mode to dvd3 in order to use the remote control? Thank you.

Thank you very much for your help with this. I am sorry for the delay in replying. I have been working away from home for the last month and have only tried your suggestion last night. It worked first time and I have my recorder back! Thanks again!

Hold the "Enter" button along with the numeric button for the command mode you selected in Setup. This will reset the remote to work in the command mode you selected (also lets you get back into System Menu to try other command modes). If you pick a different command mode, you'll need to do this again to reset the remote to the selected mode. Found this info courtesy our friends on the Internet - no thanks to Sony's manual...

Use the procedure thats posted to GET INTO THE MENU!! I pressed enter and 1 and then was able to go into system menu and change the settings back.. I had to do it a time or two.. so there may be another step involved. i changed the settings then turned the power off and back on and it worked... you may have to hit return before you turn the power off/on.. it worked though! The original poster simply left out the part about what "Enter and 1" did.. it unlocks the remote and gets you to the menu..

enjoy!!!

Just want to thank these people for the kind time to respond to these questions. I had thought that I was to the point of trashing my recorder, since without the remote it is basically useless.

Thank you so much!!! You saved me over $100+

When i press the remote all i get is DVD 3

Hi,
Your player has been set on remote mode 3, you need to change remote control itself on remote-3 so unit can get remote signals.
Set the command mode for the remote so it matches the command mode for the recorder.
Hold down ENTER.
While holding down ENTER, enter the command mode code number using the 3 number button.
Hold down both the number buttons and ENTER at the same time for more than three seconds.
Remote control has been set on mode-3, now player will accept remote commands.
Hope this will help you.
Thanks.

Set up sony RDR-VX535 recorder to DVD1. now remote does not work.

See the manual on page 22.
The solution is to reset your remote code to DVD1 (default is DVD3).

Press the ENTER button and NUMBER ONE button simultaneously for at least three seconds. Viola, control returns.

Locked out of the menue ,Need to reset command mode

Indeed, I did the same thing.... I did find the answer in the manual!
Here's a copy of it (pg 23):

Set the command mode for the remote so it matches
the command mode for the recorder you set above.
1 Hold down ENTER
2 While holding down ENTER, enter the
command mode code number using the
number buttons.
Command Mode Code number
DVD1 number button 1
DVD2 number button 2
DVD3 number button 3
3 Hold down both the number buttons and
ENTER at the same time for more than 3
seconds.
4 Let up, press RETURN, all done!

Switched to command mode DVD1(I know...) book: you will be unable to operate this recorder. That's all they wrote. Can't undo. Nothing works-screen freeze. HELP???

To solve the problem you need to change the command code on the remote control to 1. Point the remote to the unit, and press 1 on the remote.

I had the same problem also.

Command mode change disabled remote

According to Sony, if you turn the power on and hold the Enter key and the #1 key down together for at least 3 seconds, everything will default back to factory settings.

Command mode

I did the same thing and lost all remote control to the recorder. Try holding ENTER & 3 in unison for as long as it takes (30 secs or more ) to view change on TV screen. This should get u back to system menu where u can change back to dvd 3 (default ) If doesn't work get a one for all remote and enter code 0533 which will get u in to the recorder command lines. PS enter & 3 worked 4 me.
