I bought a new acer aspire 5920 with windows vista home premium preloaded. i got sick of vista and down graded to XP, sadly now half my drivers and hardware are gone or wont work with XP...how do i restore it to factory default?

If you installed the customized(!) version of Windows that ACER supplies with each new ACER computer, namely Windows Vista Home Premium, you should have all of the correct device-drivers.

If you "down-graded" from that version of Windows to Windows XP, and some of the device-drivers are "missing", then I recommend that you reinstall Windows Vista, or purchase an "upgrade" to Windows 7.

You might try to access the manufacturer's web-site, via: http://www.Acer.com
to see if they support "down-grading" to Windows XP, and if they supply the needed device-drivers.

But, your BEST solution is to reinstall Windows Vista, and be sure to apply "Service Pack 2" to Vista, to bring it up-to-date.

to my best knowledge the preloaded os is Vista Home Premium so if you need to reboot your system you need to goto the start menu and select reboot...

alternatively you can do this also by entering the following code in the RUN....

shutdown -r -t 0

you can get the run by pressing 'windows key+r'

Your best option is to upgrade to Windows 7. It is free for (I believe all) Vista users, and you can run programs in XP compatibility mode.

Go to the Acer WEB site to download the drivers you need, make sure it is Windows XP or Vista version for your particular MODEL laptop.

yeah definitely.because generally XP does not contain any driver as VISTA have in-built.
you can get those driver on acer site.

hithere your best bet is just to go onto the acer site and they will have all the updated drivers for windows vista on there. i had the sameproblem with my laptop which is also an acer. any problems then just emial meon [email protected].

right click on the ? and uninstall it. Scan for hardware changes and let windows find the driver.

Only OEM editions of Windows Vista Business and Vista Ultimate can be downgraded to Windows XP Professional. Microsoft offers no downgrade rights for Vista Home Basic or Home Premium.
