If you have all the music from the Ipod on your computer, I recommend you do a factory reset of the Nano. You could have a corrupted audio file that is messing everything up or your hard drive could be failing.
put your ipod in disk mode by following these steps. press and hold the Menu and Center buttons on the clickwheel. when you see the apple appear, switch your fingers to the center and play/pause buttons. whena check mark appears plug it into you computer and it should detect and mount. add music and have fun.
ok if u have windows u need to do a search and type in anything that has to do with ur current iTunes and delete everything but the music folders and after u need to reinstall itunes and then plug in ur ipod after iTunes is open and try restoring the ipod.
For it to recongnize, maybe try: 1: go to control panel 2:add hardware 3:connect your hardware device and click "yes i have connected the hardware" 4:scroll down and select install new hardware device 5:select install hardware that i manually select from a list 6:scroll down to windows portable devices 7:and choose MTP device this should make it so your ipod is now recognised by the computer ---John
