So, what is your question?

There is nobody on FIXYA that "officially" speaks for either HP or their COMPAQ subsidiary.

Buy the "three-year-extended-warranty" from HP before the "standard" warranty expires.

Review your "backup" strategy, to eliminate/minimize any "data" loss that you might experience when each laptop fails.

Brand new acer 16.9 kaptop doesnt play sound in media player dvd

If your Acer is brand new and less than 1 year old then I suggest returning it to the shop where you bought it and have it repaired under warranty. If you try to repair it you may void your warranty.
tip

Your rights under customer warrenty

if the unit is less then 3 yrs old then it comes under expected to last warranty this law says that items above $100 u.s must last more than 3 yrs if they dont the company must give you a replacement if not fixabe or a money back refund this is law demand your right just say 3 year expected life warranty and see the look on there face it always makes me laugh at people who buy extended warranty's in this case the dept of consumer service has got your back <br /><br /><br />best of luck <br />

Need a new motherboard for Toshiba satalite pro A200, any ideas as to where and how much, also is it worth replacing or buying new, thanks.

Hi there.
If you have a look on Ebay you may be able to get one from there but you have buy a brand new one and they are not cheap to replace, they can be in excess of £200/$375!!! if you bought a second hand one then there could be a chance it won't work meaning you have wasted a lot of money. A replacement motherboard could cost the price of a brand new laptop which would have a years warranty.
I personally would buy a new laptop and sell yours for spares and repairs, at least that would cover some of the cost of a new machine.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Please advise about laptop repair

This is always a preference call. Dell has great service when you are under warranty, but the warranty extension is a little pricier than third party. Here is my general rule of thumb:

If the warranty is more than 20% of the current value, its too expensive. a 1 year old laptop is worth about 60% of its new value. so do some math, and always keep in mind the cost of a replacement.

If you have a high end laptop, that is heavily relied upon, for sure keep the factory warranty. If its personal, your money is better spent on backing up personal data (photos and files) and saving the extra money for the eventual upgrade later on.

Compressor

Hello
Welcome to fixya.
I'm Huuum and happy to assist you,

I believe your problem is an old compressor about to go!
At 11 years old My advice is do not put good money into bad!
A new fridge will pay for itself in a few years by using a lot less electricity!

Here is an interesting report I just read!

Repair or replace?

When to pull the plug on your old refrigerator

It nearly always makes sense to undertake simple do-it-yourself repairs,
such as replacing a gasket on a refrigerator or a freezer.

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your refrigerator,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your refrigerator is under warranty or less than four years old (three years for top-freezers),
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that refrigerators under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your refrigerator is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models are quieter and have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new refrigerator.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive top-freezer refrigerator
six or more years old or a bottom-freezer or side-by-side eight or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of a refrigerator you replace is likely to end up in a landfill.
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to help!

Freezer - top shelf frosted over -- poor cooling through rest of freezer

Hi yadak,
Happy to help.

You may need a new door seal.
But they are not easy to put on properly
and I would not recommend spending a lot of money on a ten year old freezer!
the new ones are much more energy efficient and will save you a lot of money!

Screen has cracked

The only way to see if the laptop is still under warranty is to contact Toshiba directly. They have a warranty information site online at: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_navShell.jsp?cf=su_wa_cent.html
