My GE profile dishwasher is leaving soap residue on the dishes after a wash cycle. Cloudy and a sort of fim on the dishes. Seems to be getting worse. I use the same dish detergent-Cascade and regulary use a finish liquid and fill the well with that.

The problem is most likely that there is still water residue at the bottom of your machine. If the machine is not fully drained it picks up some of the residue and sprays that onto the dishes during the final rinse, leaving an unhealthy and unsightly film on everything.
Remove the bottom strainers and make sure that there is nothing obstructing the outlet pipe and the pump. If possible back flush through the outlet pipe and try draining the machine again before using it again.

Soap residue on dishes after running dish washing cycle

Too much soap for the load or quality of the soap. Also check the inlet water flow system. Clean the filter attached to the machine body at the end of the inlet tube.

Dishwasher leaves food particles on dishes

You are not getting enough water in the machine. The inlet valve is probably plugged with sand or something of the sort. You will need to replace the inlet valve.

My dishwasher leaves a cloudy residue on my dishes

The cloudy residue that is left on your dishes is soap that has not completly broken down.

There are a few solutions to the problem. First off, you want to ensure that you are using the "high temp wash" option. This will boost your water temp during the wash cycle to ensure that all the soap breaks down.

The second thing that you want to do to give your dishwasher a boost, is run the hot water in the sink and make sure it's pipping hot before you start your dishwasher. What this will do is ensure that the water that goes in for the "pre wash" portion of the wash is hot and will improve the wash quality.

Good luck!

GE Profile Dishwasher (5 years old); Leaving residue on dishes

In my case the counter mounted breather for the drain tube was being restricted ... finally to the point it would not drain the tub at all. I disassembled the above counter drain assembly and cleaned it out as it wass completely blocked and things work very well again. I would suggest this foirst as it is an easy task and is done 'above the counter'.
I then ran 2 cups of CLR with wash cycle ... no dishes to clean out the rest of the washer as on dissaembly of the internals to diagnose they were and very scummed up with a hard white crusty substance that was completely blocking some of the drain sump performations.

Silverware becomes cloudy and is difficult to polish

The new water-conserving dishwashers, including the LG LDF 7811 are very sensitive to the dishwasher soap that is used.
If you notice white staining beneath the soap dispenser at the end of each full wash and possibly undissolved powder remaining in the dispenser, I recommend you stop using that powder and buy a box of Electrosol or Cascade powder and use it in place of what you currently use. Avoid using gel or tablets in all dishwashers.
I experienced very similar problems with the LDF8812 that I personally own. First step to fix was pulling the filter (10 phillips screws) rinsing the filter as best possible, remove all debris. Replace filter and spray arm.
Place a bowl filled with white vinegar in a bowl on the rack of the empty dishwasher. Run a quick wash cycle to the end.
Look closely at the RinseAid cap inside the door, remove it and turn the little dial to a lower number. Over time, adjust it up if dishes are not drying properly.
Use the dishwasher normally - do not overly pre-rinse the dishes because the food particles are actually used during the wash cycle to help clean the dishes. Also, do not over load the dispenser cup with soap. A Tablespoon will do it. If you run out of the rinse aid, feel free to use white vinegar.

Dishwasher soap dispenser won't open during cycle

I had the same problem with my GE Adora. The dishes were getting cloudy and the soap dispenser would not open. Turns out the hard water deposits were causing the soap dispenser to stick shut. I purchased and used Dishwasher Magic which is a dishwasher cleaner designed to remove limescale, rust and buildup. I used as directed and now my dishes are sparkling and the soap dispenser pops right open.
