I have a 50 inch Philiphs DLP,, th picture wasdark one day now theirs no picture nor sound...What could bewrong with it?

By the sounds the light source is gone and will need to be replaced. This is not something that is customer serviceable.
I recommend contacting Philips' customer service. They may likely have repair techs in your area. I'd expect the cost to be between $150 - $300. Their customer service number is below.

Everything is fixable, but it is a 17 year old set, with old technology. In these days of Internet connectible, Smart televisions with 4K picture quality, you would notice a big difference. I would say you have had your moneys worth out of it. Its up to you, service centre, or a new one.

PHILIPS 50 Inch HD DLP Projection TV the picture went out suddenly and there is not sound but a loud humming-buzzing coming from the set...any ideas on what could be wrong or if it can be fixed?

It's the optical block (color wheel) and the same thing happenned to our Philips 50" DLP. From what I've read, it's not worth the trouble & $$ to fix. Dig a hole!
