Hi,
To resolve the error code 0×490 you can perform a clean boot up, which uses only a minimal set of drivers and start up programs. It helps to eliminate software conflicts and then you can fix the error. To resolve this problem with the hardware device perform a hardware clean boot and check the devices and reboot the computer.

Hope this helps you.

You have a problem with your Boot file in the registry . You can try doing a repair by booting from your Windows installation disk and select repair.
Depending on what OS ( Operating System, XP ,Win 7) do a Google search for instructions.

Power connection to computer came out during shutdown yesterday. Today, turning on, it will not boot up.

You are going to need a clean boot up disk. You will have to get one mailed to you or you will have to use another computer to download one. This will get you back into a point that you can do a windows restore. This is going to get rid of all programs and start you fresh. I do, however, feel that you disk drive is going out or already shot. You should do a Chkdsk on it. (check disk). This will tell you if it is a hard drive error or not.

Error 0x490

I think your windows boot configuration file is corrupted. May there are some bad sectors or else. What to do is use UBCD or Hiren BootCD and boot it offline and check the HARD disk using hard disk repair tools in any of those two.

Computer won't work past login screen

from that error, it is likely one of 2 things. Either the bootloader is corrupted, which you can try to repair with the following tools:

http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Recovering+the+Vista+Bootloader+from+the+DVD

Worst case for a software error, clean install of Windows to resolve.

Or the hard drive is having a hardware failure and it is effecting the boot sector of the HDD. If it is a HW failure, you may be able to run diags to see if a fault is found. If the drive is bad, it will need to be replaced

OPS - windows Vista Business. Not able start windows Vista: 1. system restore - failed, error code 0x490 2. system files integrity - failed, error code 0x2 3. system volume on disk is corrupt.

You basically are having BSOD = Blue screens of death of the boot manager and causes your computer to crash and not log into the OS, I would recommend you do a DFT , Drive Fitness Test on the computer, you can download it from google and burn it to a cd and boot off of it and test your Hard Drive. Most likely you have a bad hard drive or bad sectors and these damaged sectors could have been system files that vista needs to boot into and since it can no longer access / find them you wont be able to log on. If you replace the Hard Drive and reinstall using your system Disks/ restore cd's you should be golden and up and running. If you dont have the disks you can call the computer manufacturer and they should be able to supply you a copy for a small charge. Hope my answer gets you closer to a solution. Please Help rate me if I helped you out or not I am new but a very good tech.
