As you suspected, the normal cause for this is the speaker wires short circuiting somewhere and causing the amplifier to cut out momentarily to prevent damage.

If there were no bare wires touching each other or touching adjacent speaker connections on the back of the stereo, then you should also check the other ends where the speaker wires connect to the speakers. Again make sure no stray wires will contact the other wire or terminal.

It is unlikely to be a power supply fuse or a loose power supply cable since the unit would likely shut down completely or at least switch to standby.

It's possible that a power transistor or other component in the amplifier circuit has a cold solder joint or is just failing, but if so then it is a significant disassembly and troubleshooting task best left for a technician.

Hopefully the system just needs to be reset.

Well here is the link to the main Technics Support page for your set in case you did not have it already:

http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/Audio/Technics-Audio-DJ/Technics-Receivers/model.SA-DX930

Here is the link to the Operating Manual (see page 41 for overload reset instructions):

http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/SADX930.PDF?cm_sp=Support-Operating Instructions-_-Model-SA-DX930-_-SA-DX930 Operating Instructions (English)

Basically it says to unplug the power cable for a few minutes and then plug it back in.

Or press and hold down the HELP / RESET button for about 2 seconds until the word RESET appears on the display.

Good luck and I hope this was at least a little helpful.

Please comment back here if you need any further assistance.
Take care.
Joe.

Yes' - there are two fuses that are on the circuit board. remove the unit case and locate the fuses -- they will be near the internal amplifier. if it turns out that the fuses are good - then the problem could be the volume resistor plates or a bad amplifier. it might be worth taking the unit into your local stereo repair shop and have them take a look at it,, it could just be a bad resistor or diode on the circuit board and that is very cheap to fix.

I moved and cannot find manuel for sa-dx940 need instruction on how to reconnet wire to t.v. and speaker

The Technics SA-DX940 is made by Panasonic. The manua as a PDF is available here: http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/SADX940.PDF . The directions for connecting the speakers start on page 14. The connection to the TV is on page 10. To use the SA-DX940 as just external speakers for your TV, connect either the digital audio out from the TV (if it has one) or the RCA audio out from the TV to the matching TV audio in on the SA-DX940.

I hope this helps.

Connecting sub speaker to technics sa dx930

Yes, if it only has speaker-level inputs it would require an amplifier to properly drive it. Name the sub and maybe we can answer the second question.

My technics sa-dx930 receiver stops working and an error message is displayed that says "overload" when i use the "b" speakers for my patio. This is a new problem. i have had the same outside speakers,...

Hey, I own one of these systems. Whenever I touch two of the wires together (shorting it out) the system shuts down and overload appears on the display. My suggestion is too check your wiring (especially in the spliced areas) or replace the wiring to the outside speakers and try it again. If you dont want to try that, take the wires you have hooked to the A speakers and see if they will work on the B setting (a quick troubleshooting technique). Please let me know if it worked for you. Good Luck!

Center speaker is dead or what it can be on my Technics SA-dx930.

More than like, the center channel is turned off on your receiver. Please see page 16 of the manual, which is located here:
http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/SADX930.PDF

The manual says to do this:
Turn on the receiver.
Press Speaker A and B button at the same time.
The word Setting appears then changes to Front
Press A to select Center
Press B to choose Large, Small or None for your center speaker.
After choosing Large or Small, press A again till you see Complete on the screen.

If this helps, please rate my response.

Technics SA-DX930. I ran digital optical cable from the TV to the receiver using the tv/dss mode. It worked well for 4 months. It stopped working. I can get sound out of the receiver and speakers using...

If the only thing not working is the optical input, it is possible that the optical converter is defective. Without seeing the actual unit and testing the IC, I can't say for sure. If you have test equipment, let me know and we will attempt to track this down.

About technice sa-dx930

The one plug on the back of the receiver is an rca-type plug and is designed to be connected to a powered sub, which would also have an rca-type input. Even if you connected it, this output carries a line level signal and is not powerful enough to drive a speaker. If your sub has 2 connectors (same as a normal speaker) then you have an unpowered or passive subwoofer. You would either need a powered sub, or to use an external amplifier of some sort...then the sub output from your current receiver would go into the external amp...and the amp connected to the passive sub.
Hope this helps.

I hooked two Receivers up in series a Technics SA-DX930 and a different kind I'm not sure wut kind. They worked great for a while, but when they got turned up a little louder they both quit puting out...

you blew your power amp board, you cannot hook them in series due to impediance matching and improper input levels, cheaper to replace reciever than the board
