The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. The compatible Operating Systems are as follows:

• Windows XP
• Windows Me
• Windows Vista
• Windows 7
• Mac OS X

Please follow the below troubleshooting steps if your Computer is installed with any of the above mentioned Operating System. Please note that other Operating Systems are not compatible with your Camera.

1. Please make sure that the connections are secure. Prior to making any adjustments, first ensure you've firmly connected your Camera's USB cable into the USB port on your PC.
2. Power off and disconnect your Camera from your computer.
3. Restart your computer.

• Under Universal Serial Bus controllers , right-click Sony DSC or USB Mass Storage Device to display the drop-down menu.
• In the drop-down menu, click Uninstall or Remove.
• In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the OK button.
• Restart the computer.
• Follow any on-screen instructions to complete reinstallation of the USB driver.

If the issue persists, reset the Camera by removing the battery for more than one minutes and check the operation.

If a PC connection is not recognized by a Computer, most probably it will not be a hardware issue.

The official specifications for the camera don't state it is compatible with windows 7. A few things you can try to connect:

• change the usb port you are plugging into.
• try a different usb cable if you have one available

if neither of these things work you might be better off purchasing a card reader that is compatible with windows 7. these can be found for relatively little money. Then you can put the SD card from the camera into the card reader and download photos that way.

The SONY web site not offering the windows 7 drivers for this camera you can also check from HERE. i believe that if you connect this camera with your system having windows 7 will automatically detect and install if your system have internet connection.

This type of camera downloads video with a Firewire (Sony call this i.Link) connection. Some mini-DV and D8 cameras have a USB connection which is used for stills ONLY.

Most PCs have a USB port, but no Firewire port. Macs often have a Firewire port but may not have USB. As most Windows PCs do not come with this interface, you might need to fit an add-on Firewire interface card. This will come with a driver for the card.

Suitable Firewire (DV) cables can easily be found on Amazon or eBay. You will need the kind with a small (four pin) connector at one end and a larger (six pin) connector at the other. My camera came with the correct lead.

There is a Sony tutorial page for downloading video to computer at THIS LINK You will need to select Windows as the operating system, then Mini-DV as the camera type, then select the type of connection. As you will see, the USB option warns that it won't work with many cameras, and you are strongly recommended to use i.Link (which everyone else calls Firewire).

Windows 7 compatibility- Sony say it is compatible, but "Windows 7 needs to be preinstalled at the factory" (meaning installed on the computer) rather than an Update to Vista or XP performed by the user. You must also use i.Link, not USB.

Try also to do windows update while the camera is turned ON and is connected to the computer. Windows update automatically searches for updated drivers on Microsoft's database.

Try not to connect at front usb. Only back USB (due to lack of power in it)
