Wont turn off, or reset

When turned on it will not shut off. when turned on all I get is tom tom 720 in top right corner and picture of tom tom just of centre and a picture of a disc bottom right corner. Nothing else happens. mtiony tomtom cant swich off, it is staying on al the time with lost informa

When I try to connect my tom tom 720 to my lap top a message says usb connection is not recognised

Have you tried to connect to a desk top through the USB port to isolate the laptop or GPS issue.

If you get the same problem with a desktop than I would suggest that you perform a hard reset to the GPS. This is done through the pin hole in the case labled "Reset" insert the tip of a paper clip into the reset hole and reset the device.

If this fails try reloading the GPS software, there are instructions on the Tom Tom web site

I have a new tom tom and it wont chrge up it works in the car or on the cradel but the miny=tei take it of the cradle or turn the car off it shuts down

It could be set to turn off when disconnected from external power, try going into setting and change the power setting!

Restarts unexpectedly and slow to start

The TomTom 520 and 720 are the same unit. the differance is the maps. The 520 has maps of the US and the 720 has maps of Europe. Download the free clearflash utility from TomTom and run it a couple of times. This should clear up your problem. Sometimes the mapset config in the map gets full and it has to be cleared.

Tom tom won't turn off

if it does not proceed when the icon is selected, presume data corruption or in fact no data.
TomTom is renouned for this type of problem.
try rteinstalling the map data from the source.

try a reset first ( small pinhole on rear) put open paperclip end in and gently push the button inside) if this still fails then data installation is the go

My tom tom won't turn on. While charging it, the green light goes on, but pressing the power button does nothing. It's just dead. Is there a solution?

I had the same problem with the go 920, I thought it was broken,
Solution was to insert pin into reset hole for 15 Sec, after which hold the power on button for at least 5 Secs

Tom tom 720 Go - Language change

Just followed the lead above and got it sorted straight away. Many thanks. Just one thing though. When it says look for the little arrow in the bottom right hand corner.It means the blue arrow that is the bottom right of the six symbles displayed. I was looking for an arrow in the very corner of the screen. Duh!! lol.

there is a reset button on the bottom of the unit ,take a paper clip or pin and pus in for abut 30 seconds then try to turn on.the reset is a small hole about a 1/4 inch from front of unit on bottom it says reset withan arrow pointing to hole

Reset the unit by pushing a bent paperclip or pin into the hole on the bottom marked 'reset' turn it back on, plug it in & charge it via USB overnight or as long as you can in the car, make sure the led on the top is green, tap the bottom right of the screen & check the battery symbol on the unit says charging underneath.
